Does Link have his Green Outfit in Tears of the Kingdom?

For the bulk of the Zelda games timeline, Link was dressed in a peter pan inspired green fairy boy ensemble. It’s only Breath of the Wild that’s made the switch over to his Blue tunic. Naturally, some more long-time fans have preferred to put Link back in his more iconic outfit. The last game provided a few ways to do this. There were direct recreations of past game outfits like Ocarina Link and Twilight Princess Link that you got from Aiimbo. However, there was also a new Wild armor set.

This set took clear inspiration from the very first Legend of Zelda game, just like BOTW’s prototype. It put Link in a modern take on the outfit that was depicted in art for the early Zelda game. Just a simple green tunic. This returns in the new Tears of the Kingdom, now called the Armor of the Hero. If you want to get the classic Link outfit in Tears of the Kingdom, then getting the Armor of the Hero is the best way.

Beyond that, there’s more ways to get old fashioned Link outfits. There’s the Ocarina of Time set in Tears of the Kingdoms, Twilight Princess set, and more. The Armor of the Hero is the set we’ll be covering here though, for Link’s truly classic outfit.

The classic Link outfit in Tears of the Kingdom is easiest through the Armor of the hero. This is a set of three items. There’s the Tunic of the Hero, Trousers of the Hero, and Cap of the Hero. In BOTW, you got the items for finishing the game’s Shrines. This time though, you get them through exploration.

If you’re trying to track down classic Link outfit in TOTK, you’ll need to head to the Depths. TOTK opens up the Hyrule map in two key ways. There are the sky islands in Tears of the Kingdom home to shrines and loot. However, there’s also the Depths below Hyrule. This is where Ganon has really taken over. You’ll have to head here to get the classic Link outfit in Tears of the Kingdom.

Different areas of the depths have different features. There are different spots where you can find each piece of the classic Link outfit in Tears of the Kingdom. To get all three you might need to stock up on a few items to illuminate the depths. However, it shouldn’t take too long to get the classic Link outfits in TOTK.

The Cap of the hero is located in the depths below Hyrule. Specifically, it’s in the abandoned Lurelin Mine. That’s located in a chasm that is close to Hateno Village. Pretty convenient if you’ve just headed over there to change Link’s hair in TOTK.

Head to the depths in this area, and find the entrance to the Abandoned Hateno mine. Inside the mines, you can get through some rocks to find a chest on a pedestal. In there is the Cap of the Hero!

Tunic of the Hero

The next piece of the classic Link outfit in Tears of the Kingdom is the Tunic of the Hero. This one is also located in an abandoned mine. You can get your way into this one by heading over to Kakarito Village.

Then, head into the East Hill Chasm. Once you get down to the Depths, you can find a lightroot which will make the exploration a bit easier. From the Lightroot, head west a little before taking the southern passage over to a steep slope. This has the Duelling Canyon Mines at the bottom. In that mine, you’re going to find another chest on a pedestal. Inside is the Tunic of the Hero.

Trousers of Time

The final part to getting the Classic Link outfit in Tears of the Kingdom is the Trousers! You can find these in yet another spot in the depths. For this one, you need to get under the Hebra Mountain. Although, there not actually from the same set.

The final part doesn’t exist for the “of the hero” set. Instead, the classic Link outfit in Tears of the Kingdom comes from the Ocarina of Time set. To find the Trousers of Time, you need to go to the Hebra depths. There aren’t great entrances for this part of the depths, so it’s a bit of a journey. Definitely one worth taking though, as Link’s tights look is a key part of this outfit! It just doesn’t look right with proper trousers on him. To get the final part of the classic Link outfit in Tears of the Kingdom, start in in the Hyrule Ridge Chasm.

Once in there, start to head northwest. It’s a bit of a trek. Keep heading over until you’re lined up with Corvash Canyon Mine, close to a Lightroot to make the final step a bit easier. Once here, you’ll find a large hole. In the bottom, there’s yet another chest. This one contains the Trousers of the Hero.

With this complete, you’ve got the full armor of the hero! This is a really fun alternative to the standard outfit for Link in-game. Although, if you really want to complete the retro look, then grabbing Epona in Tears of the Kingdom is going to help a lot too! The you’re all set-up to travel Hyrule in a more classic look.
