After the Warcraft 3:Reforged (Refunded) incident, everyone tended to be quite skeptical when Blizzard announced that they were making a Warcraft mobile game. There were various speculations on what the game could be, but the reveal is finally here, and honestly, it has its ups and downs.
The reveal trailer
Many say that Blizzard is not the company that they used to love because it turned into something a bit greedy. Ironically, the trailer for the new mobile game Warcraft Arclight Rumble starts with a character putting some money into the machine. This moment, along with a few others, such as the mention of ”Sneed’s Greed,” was made fun of by the most popular WoW streamer Asmongold, and we cannot blame him for doing that.
Despite the jokes about the company being greedy, the trailer actually seemed quite interesting, and it is something Blizzard has not been doing for quite a while, which is taking something that already exists and making it better, which is where all of our favorite games come from. In this case, Warcraft Arclight Rumble seems very similar to Clash Royale, but instead of calling it a card game, they are calling it a “tower offense.”
During the reveal trailer, we could hear developers have a rather interesting approach to the new Warcraft mobile game. While their take is certainly…interesting…it also shows that they are quite passionate about the project. Overall, the game seems to have the good ol’ goofy-looking Warcraft graphics and vibe, which is already setting it up for success.
Free to play, or is it?
The game is advertised as a free-to-play game. However, there are some issues that definitely have to be addressed. Even if the game is not out yet, it is actually banned in certain countries due to the in-game purchases that contain random loot aka. loot boxes.
No matter what kind of a fan of games you are, casual or hardcore, one thing that everyone agrees with is that loot boxes that are not limited to cosmetics are a horrible thing for the game. While Warcraft Arclight Rumble is not out yet, and things can definitely change, considering that it is very similar to Clash Royale, there are very small chances that the loot boxes are going to be removed or limited to cosmetics.
Gameplay speculation
While we did not have the chance to try out the game in person, we are already pre-registered and still anticipating giving this game a try. Even if the game does seem to be taking the Clash Royale formula and making it better by adding some Warcraft-specific mechanics such as dungeons and raids, it is still early to say if this is going to become the next big thing in the esports betting industry.
Its own spin on the genre is something we encourage you to try out, especially if you were a fan of the Warcraft 3 custom maps that dip into the tower defense or hero defense genre.
How do streamers feel about Warcraft Arclight Rumble?
Asmongold was quite blown away by the trailer itself, and he was having a laugh during the developer reveal. While memeing about the game for a while, he actually said that the game seems just “fine” and that it is the game for Blizzard to give them the new audience they are looking for. He will probably not play the game as it is a mobile-exclusive, but considering how Diablo: Immortal is getting a PC port, later on, Warcraft Arclight Rumble might get the same treatment.
Bellular had a similar opinion, saying that the game has the potential to be a fun game for everyone. He is intrigued by the part where Warcraft Arclight Rumble is going to have PVE content as well as map design, which is something a lot of people would enjoy, just like Bloons TD. Like us, Bellular compared the shown gameplay to some of the custom maps from the Blizzard RTS universe, but instead of going with the Warcraft 3 one, he mentioned the Starcraft 2 Arcade as being free-to-play.
Taliesin probably has the most common opinion, which is that the game is a clone of Clash of Clans, and if you watch the recap of his reaction to the reveal, an interesting comment says that in the 15-minute video, he says, “CoC” 103 times, which is quite funny. Like Asmongold, Taliesin thinks the game looks fine, but there is a very low chance he is going to give it a try, and he also talked about the potential issue of monetization.
