Transportation mishaps can throw even the most well-organized esports LAN events into disarray. When it comes to hosting a successful tournament, ensuring optimal PC setups, reliable internet connections, spacious spectator areas, and essential amenities for pro teams are crucial. However, one aspect often overlooked is transportation. With teams consisting of numerous members, including players, coaching staff, and management, arranging suitable transportation can prove surprisingly challenging.

According to a report by Dexerto, On June 8, chaos ensued after an upper bracket match at the VCL South Asia Split 2 between Orangutan and Aster Army when a breakdown in transportation left both teams stranded. Allegedly, the event organizers, Nodwin Gaming, failed to make arrangements for their return journey.

Palak Jain, the Brand Manager for Orangutan, took to Twitter and shared a snapshot of the team stranded on the roadside, appealing to Nodwin Gaming, “please send a bus.” Surprisingly, Aster Army’s coach, Vandelak, responded to the tweet, confirming that his team too had been left in the lurch by the organizers. Faced with this predicament, the teams had to resort to unconventional methods to find their way back home.

In a subsequent tweet, Vandelak shared a video of himself hitching a ride on a tractor after the match. Meanwhile, Orangutan had to squeeze all eight players into a single tuk-tuk to embark on their journey home. A video posted by Orangutan player azys showcased the team huddled together inside the cramped tuk-tuk under the cover of darkness.

To shed further light on the situation, Orangutan’s Creative Director, Pravnav Nambiar, tweeted a short, clearer video depicting the players stacked on top of each other within the tuk-tuk.

Despite the transportation fiasco, the VCL South Asia tournament continues, with the lower finals underway to determine the teams that will battle it out in the grand finals. The victor of the grand finals will earn the privilege of representing the region in the highly anticipated VCT Pacific Ascension.
