The Overwatch hero, Tracer, is one of the most iconic characters in the franchise

Everything you need to know to play Tracer, including the best combos!

Tracer is one of the most iconic and popular Overwatch 2 heroes that players have the chance to play with. Although the elusive DPS was a part of Overwatch, the hero is also available in the game’s latest version. Moreover, Trace only received a couple of small nerfs, which means the hero is relatively the same.

Some DPS heroes were only popular among casual players, whereas others had tons of fans among pros. It is safe to say that Tracer is in the second category because this hero is elusive and deals a lot of damage. Hence, learning how to play with Trace was key for those who wanted to play competitively.

Even though the hero continues to be popular in the new game, the Overwatch 2 hero changes made heroes like Sombra much stronger. Since she has almost the same role as Tracer, you can find her in the Overwatch 2 hero tier list because some people prefer the hacker.

That said, we believe that Tracer is still among the best, and this guide will show you why this is the case.

Overview

As mentioned earlier, Tracer is among the Overwatch 2 heroes that did not receive a lot of changes. Hence, the hero’s role and playstyle remain largely the same. In other words, she needs to try and pick off weak support/DPS while staying alive for as long as possible. The bad news is that this is easier said than done and will require a lot of practice.

Speaking of changes, before we point out some things in this Overwatch 2 Tracer guide, we have to include the new things. In addition to the passive that every DPS benefits from, Tracer only has one nerf. Her Pulse Pistols now deal five damage per shot instead of 6. As a result, the hero will need to land more shots and will need more time to secure a kill.

Following our tests, we can say that the nerf is noticeable, but it doesn’t make the hero impossible to play. That said, players must be more careful because they may need one additional reload before securing a kill.

Tip – Always have a backup plan

This tip was essential in Overwatch, and it definitely applies to everyone who plays Overwatch 2. As one of the most mobile heroes in the game, Tracer can do wonders and is one of the most annoying DPS to play against. However, many people make the mistake of using all of her abilities offensively.

Although it might seem fun to use everything at once and land a kill, once this fight is over, you have nothing to use. Unsurprisingly, Tracer that does not have any active cooldowns dies in seconds because she has the lowest HP in the game.

To avoid putting yourself in such situations, always have a cooldown ready to use when needed. For example, you can save one of your charges or use the recall ability to go back and save yourself from death.

Tip – Learn how to move properly

One of the main things you need to know about how to play Tracer in Overwatch 2 is related to movement. Although this thing is not as important in Overwatch 2 as in CSGO, it can make a huge difference, especially for some heroes.

The first and most important thing to remember when playing with any hero is to avoid walking in a straight line. Doing this will make you an easy target for headshots, and this is definitely something you won’t want, especially with Tracer.

Aside from this general rule, this Overwatch 2 hero can benefit a lot from crouching. This doesn’t mean you must press “duck” and walk like this the entire time. However, by crouching when moving, you make yourself way more difficult to hit and even eliminate some of the noises you make while running. As you can probably guess, this can greatly impact your overall success.

Tip – Use your melee attack

This tip from Overwatch also applies to Overwatch 2 because hitting an enemy with your melee attack as Tracer can help you a lot. Since the hero deals slightly less damage than before, this is even more important because it might be enough to secure a kill on a given target.

The bad news is that you have to be careful when you use it and how you do that. Since you have to get closer to a target, there are situations where this might be fatal, especially if you are playing against heroes with high burst damage. Cassidy is one of the best examples right now because this hero’s new grenade allows him to kill Tracer in seconds.

Combos

Tracer is one of the most versatile Overwatch 2 heroes, making her an excellent option in all sorts of situations. Having said that, this is a hero that does not move with her team. Instead, she usually plays solo and tries to tier apart the enemy’s backline. As a result, there are certain heroes that allow her to do much more than others.

Ana

Unsurprisingly, one of the first heroes that come to mind when it comes down to combos with Tracer is Ana. Besides the fact that this support can put a given target to sleep and save the squishy DPS, Ana’s ult can make Tracer a nightmare to deal with. The hero can easily kill the entire team in seconds, and she will be way harder to kill.

The bad thing about using these two heroes is that Ana will rarely use the ult on Tracer because there will be other heroes in her LoS.

Zarya and Orisa

The reason why Zarya and Orisa are on this list is because of their ultimates. When used, Tracer has the chance to put her Pulse Bomb and hit multiple heroes at once. Needless to say, this can be enough to score at least a couple of kills.

Aside from the ults, Zarya is pretty good with Tracer because of the shields. Although this Overwatch 2 DPS hero is easy to kill, the bubble makes it a little bit harder to bring down, which is a big plus.

Other options

Tracer is a hero who can work alongside many other options. It all depends on the map and your opponents, so think carefully before playing. We’ve seen many teams use Sombra and Tracer together, but this is not always a good idea. Although these two are really annoying, they have almost the same role, which means that the team only has 3 players who are close to each other.
