PlayStation Showcase May 2023: Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake, Spider-Man 2 and more!

Here is everything you missed from the PlayStation Showcase from May 2023!

The most recent PlayStation Showcase just wrapped and it clocked in at about an hour of length! There were lots of updates on previously announced titles as well as some surprises!

Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake, Dragons Dogma 2, and finally something on Spider-Man 2! But don’t miss out on all the other games revealed.

Fairgame$

Haven’s first game is finally announced! Fairgame$. And it is a competitive multiplayer shooter in which player teams compete with each other for objectives.

Starting to look a lot like that Hood: Outlaws & Legends which was released a couple of years back. Just with a more upbeat, Watch Dogs style. It is no surprise, since it comes from some of the minds behind Ubisoft’s Assassins Creed series.

Helldivers 2

Helldivers 2 is coming later this year for both PC and PS5. And will be a coop shooter in which you and your friends bring piece and prosperity from Super Earth to those poor Third-World Worlds.

It looks like Planet Side 2’s legacy is alive and well, and we’re very much looking forward to learning more about it. But will it dethrone the king of the genre, Earth Defense Force?

Immortals of Aveum

And here we have another Gameplay Trailer of Immortals of Aveum, the Doom of Fantasy FPS’. Brought to you by some of the minds behind Dead Space and Call of Duty, this single-player experience is.. well Fantasy Doom. And that ain’t a bad thing.

Immortals of Aveum releases on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on July 20, 2023.

Ghostrunner 2

If you’ve played Ghostrunner then you know exactly what to expect from its sequel. While this is just an announced trailer of the Cyberpunk FPS Hack’n Slash, you can expect to learn more about it very soon.

Ghostrunner 2 will release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Phantom Blade Zero

Phantom Blade Zero is what happens when you take the rough strokes of Sekiro and throw FromSoftware’s subtle storytelling out the window.

The game fashions itself as “Kung-Fu Punk” and wants to be its own spin on Wuxia meets John Wick. You’re in a semi-open world and have 66 days with your character Soul to uncover a devious plot. Looks amazing and we can’t wait to learn more.

Phantom Blade Zero will release on PlayStation 5 and PC.

Sword of the Sea

From the art designer behind Journey and Abzu comes Giant Squid Games Sword of the Sear. Those Journey flashbacks might be intentional. But you can surf on a sword this time around. But sadly that is all we have on it for now.

Sword of the Sea will release on PlayStation 5.

The Talos Principle 2

DevolverDigital continues to deliver with Croteam’s second follow-up to The Talos Principle. So expect breathtaking vistas, puzzles that force you to think outside the box, and a complicated storyline with twists and turns.

And it will release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Neva

Also published by DevolverDigital is Never which comes to us from Nomada Studio who you might remember from Gris. Now they exchanged their beautiful watercolors for a soft pastel look.

You’ll experience the tale of a woman and her bond with a magnificent wolf and we believe those Princess Mononoke vibes are intentional!

Neva will release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PC in 2023.

Cat Quest: Pirates of the Purribean

So we heard you really liked Cat Quest and that pirate quest in the last one. So here it is. Cat Quest Pirates of the Purribean. Coming in 2024.

And it’ll release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Steam.

Foamstars

Square Enix heard you really, really liked Splatoon and asked the age-old question: “But what if it was The Bouncer?” And this is what you get.

With music by Lyn who you might know from the Persona 5 soundtrack this game seems like the PowerWash Simulator folk’s wet dream. And we’re kinda into it.

The game is currently expected to release for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

The Plucky Squire

The more we see of The Plucky Squire, the more excited we are for it. Yes, you could call it Paper Mario x 2D Zelda (Links Adventure especially) but there are way worse things to take inspiration from.

It just looks incredibly creative and we’re looking forward to the eventual release in 2023.

The Plucky Squire will release on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and PC

Teardown

The voxel world destruction simulator Teardown is heading to Console this year! If you haven’t played Tuxedo Lab’s Teardown yet, we beg you to give it a look.

As the name implies you’re tasked with tearing down buildings in increasingly ridiculous fashion with an ever-growing arsenal of tools, vehicles, and explosives. Give it a look!

Teardown will arrive on PlayStation 5 later this year and is already available on PC.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake

Unfortunately named Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is the remake of the 2005 PlayStation 2 masterpiece by Hideo Kojima. Now.. remade by Konami without Hideo Kojima it seems.

The trailer shows us basically nothing and is more of a declaration that they are really doing it after years and years of rumors. But who asked for this?

Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

The MGS Master Collection Vol. 1

But there is a Metal Gear Solid Master Collection coming to PlayStation 5 later this year. Probably including the HD Remakes of Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, and 3. And implying that we’ll get a PS5 Release of MGS4 and Peace Walker down the road.

Towers of Aghasba

Towers of Aghasba is an action-adventure builder game set in a unique fantasy world. Players are challenged to rebuild their civilization and the ecosystem, maintaining a balance between the two.

Just from a production value point alone, this game looks fantastic. Even it it bears a striking resemblance to another game that came out not too long ago.

Towers of Aghasba is set to release in 2024 for PlayStation 5.

Final Fantasy XVI Laun Trailer

When it comes to FFXVI, we’ve been eating good when it comes to trailers and information on the game. And with still a month to go until the release, Square Enix was confident enough to push out their Launch Trailer!

Final Fantasy XVI will arrive on PlayStation 5 on June 22, 2023, and release on PC sometime in the future.

Alan Wake 2

A new Remedy Game. It’s Alan Wake 2! After the first one took some inspiration from the Silent Hill franchise, Alan Wake 2 seems to follow closely in the steps of the Resident Evil Remakes.

The game will once again feature Alan Wake who’s trapped in the nightmarish worlds he created, this time however he’s assisted by FBI agent Anderson to uncover a deadly mystery.

The game will release on October 17, for PC via Epic Game Store and PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage

Assassin’s Creed is looking to clean up its act it seems. After a sting in the epic open-world genre, it seems we’re returning to the city settings, light stealth, and parkour that made the series to famous.

This prequel to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla lets you play as Basim and his journey from petty thief to assassin legend of Bagdad. And the game seems to take a lot of inspiration from the series’ debut title.

It’ll release on October 12, 2023, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC. And also be part of Ubisoft+ on day one.

Revenant Hill

The year is 1919. After the barn he was living in burns down, Twigs the cat takes up residence in a wet log near an abandoned graveyard. When the owl from the next hill over starts demanding rent, Twigs must find a way to make ends meet.

Something big and dark is at work in the towns, the factories, in the forests and hills. At some point, someone is going to have to push back. And they can’t do it alone.

Revenant Hill is releasing on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 sometime in the future.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink

The more we see of Granblue Fantasy: Relink, the giddier we get to finally get our hands on it. It’s a traditional fantasy RPG set in the gargantuan world of the Grandblue Fantasy series.

This time around we’re blessed with a game that seems to be closer to traditional Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and the Tales series.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink is expected to release in 2023 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.

Street Fighter 6

We’ve already played plenty of Street Fighter 6 and we can not help but get excited about the next entry in the legendary fighting game franchise. But we already know the fighting is gonna be the best of the series.

So what of the story mode then? So far everything about it is looking great and we’re looking forward to hitting the streets of Metro City.

Street Fighter 6 is releasing on June 2, 2023, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Ultros

You wake up stranded, after seemingly crashing your ship on The Sarcophagus — a giant, space-drifting, cosmic uterus holding an ancient demonic being known as ULTROS.

Trapped in the eternal loop of a black hole, you will have to explore The Sarcophagus and meet its inhabitants to understand the part you play.

Ultros will release on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC in 2024.

Dragons Dogma 2

Dragons Dogma 2 is real. It is no longer just a promise made by Capcom and Itsuno last year ago, it is a fact and this trailer is a statement. Everything about it just says it’s Dragons Dogma but bigger and better.

If you’re not aware, Dragons Dogma was Capcoms crack at the open-world Western fantasy game, just that it was designed by the folks that brought you Devil May Cry.

And it’ll release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Five Nights at Freddie’s Help Wanted 2

So here we are, a new Five Nights at Freddie’s game for the PlayStation VR2. If you’ve played the first one you’ll probably know what to expect here.

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted 2 is the PlayStation VR2 sequel to the terrifying VR experience that brought new life to the iconic horror franchise.

Improving on the original title, Help Wanted 2 introduces several brand new minigames that bring you face-to-face with familiar characters and locations from the series’ past.

The game is set to release for PlayStation VR2 later this year!

Resident Evil 4 Remake VR Mode

After Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village got the VR treatment and Resident Evil 4’s original version also received a VR mode. This was more or less a no-brainer.

The Resident Evil 4 Remake was a fantastic title and the previous VR versions of the franchise only deepened the immersion. We’re just afraid of the headaches all the roundhouse kicks will cause.

The RE4 Remake VR Mode is now in development for PS VR2

Arizona Sunshine 2

Arizona Sunshine was the original VR Zombie shooter. And we’re looking forward to how its sequel will stack up in a post-Walking Dead Saints and Sinners world.

You’ll return to the state of Arizona with a friend, your trusty dog buddy. The game promises to be a more cinematic experience and hopefully irons out all the kinks of its debut title!

Arizona Sunshine 2 releases in 2023 for PC, Oculus Quest, and PS VR2

Crossfire Sierra Squad

Crossfire Sierra Squad is an arcade spin on the tactical shooter genre. It’s a multiplayer VR shooter where players combine all sorts of gadgets to complete 13 single-player missions and 50 coop/squad missions.

The trailer tells you all you need to know.

And it is expected to release in the near future for PS VR.

Synapse

After an announcement a couple of months ago, we finally get to see what Synapse is like! And it looks like a cross-up of Super Hot’s surreal art style while meeting the flashy shooting of Control.

Synapse is releasing on July 4 for PS VR2.

Beat Saber

THE VR title is now on PS VR2. If you know what VR is all about, you know about Beat Saber, the rhythm game that has you slash at cubes with laser swords. Yea, that one!

And there is also a Queen Music Pack available! And Beat Saber is available NOW on PS VR2 as well as Steam and Oculus Quest

Marathon

Talk about a blast from the past. For those not in the know, Marathon was the title Bungie was working on before they made their little breakout title Halo. That thing they made before Destiny.

Marathon is a sci-fi PvP extraction shooter that is aimed at the competitive shooter space.

Marathon will find players engaging one another as cybernetic mercenaries known as Runners, exploring a lost colony on the planet of Tau Ceti IV in search of riches, fame, and infamy.

Marathon is currently in development for PlayStation 5 and PC.

Concord

Concord is another PvP multiplayer shooter coming to PS5 and PC in 2024. I would love to tell you more about this game but there is barely any info on it out there.

Just what monster put that beautifully rendered, wiggling burger into their locker? Why would you do that?

Spider-Man 2 at the PlayStation Showcase

Here it is! the Spider-Man 2 Gameplay Reveal all of us have been waiting for and.. the game looks like more of the first title and then some.

Peter and Miles both have some new moves, Peter is also infected with Venom giving him all kinds of devious abilities and a tougher attitude. This trailer also revealed Kraven as one of the game’s primary villains as well as the Lizard.

Just like the first game, Spider-Man 2 seems to make an effort to make the Spider-verse feel more alive by having villains interact with each other and putting you in the shoes of the twin spiders instead of following a singular thread.

There’s no release date yet, but the game is still scheduled to release in 2023 for PlayStation 5 and PC in the near future.

And that sums up our summary of the PlayStation Showcase! For more in gaming and the esports check out us here on ESTNN
