Everything Hinted In Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty's Trailer

A closer look at the teaser for Cyberpunk 2077:Phantom Liberty.

CD Projekt Red’s new trailer for Cyberpunk 2077’s big expansion features new areas in a broken cybernetic dystopia, new futuristic armaments, and a foreboding voiceover of V repeating an oath that swears her loyalty to the the United State of America.

Cyberpunk 2077 has been a video game surrounded by controversy and criticism since its eventual release on 2020. The ambitious project has received years of performance updates and changes to the crowd AI that have made the gameplay a more enjoyable, immersive experience (and a far cry from the rocky start that some consumers got on release day.) As such, the open-world sci-fi shooter has been wanting for new content. And after nearly 2 full years of waiting, CD Project Red has finally released the teaser trailer for its first, and reportedly last, game expansion.

Not much has been presented in the mysterious teaser, but it presents just enough. Leading with snippets of gameplay footage within the expansion, we can see larger-than-life areas holding the distinct cyberpunk flair. War zones, cyborg combatants, and Night City black markets set the tone for this exciting story expansion, and it’s got the fans excited.

Looks like we’ll be getting more of our beloved ghost Johnny Silverhand, as Keanu Reeves’ voice was also heard by the latter part of the teaser trailer warning the protagonist V in the game after swearing an oath into the “New United States Of America”. Watch his official announcement below:

With the critically acclaimed cyberpunk project having gotten its last substantial game update (Patch 1.6) for the release of Cyberpunk 2077: Edgerunners on Netflix, the chaotic citizens of Night City are expecting big things. Already the expansion has seen very positive reviews, being hailed as a step in the right direction when it comes to further building upon the gameplay experience, and the sci-fi mythos at large. Players of Cyberpunk 2077 can expect familiar sights once the animated show drops on September 13, 2022.

For what little we can gleam from the trailer, vital information on what is to come in Phantom Liberty may be found in the teaser video’s description. Below the YouTube video, it reads: “Get ready for Phantom Liberty — a spy-thriller expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 set in an all new district of Night City.”, leading us to believe that the stealth element of the massive shooter phenomena might be getting some special care in the not-so-far future. The video teaser for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty has garnered more than one million views after just a day of release, proving that the game still has a big audience.

The explicit focus on stealth and political assassination blends very well with the triple-A title’s central theme (which is, you know, giving it to the Man.) Other scenes of stylish gameplay, plans going wrong, and new antagonists promise to spur the game’s story on. Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, in its very name, teases a power struggle against a new enemy that seeks to establish order. Despite hidden agendas, the “liberty” being offered seems to be given by a controlling antagonist that demands complete obedience. The espionage element and action-packed scenes stays true to the project’s themes, and supports a cornerstone of the punk genre: to fight against the tyrants in control.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty comes out on 2023 for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, PC, and Stadia.
