FFXIV 6.4 Patch Notes Breakdown: Balance Updates and New Features Explained

Why they felt the need to buff Warrior despite its already insane survivability is beyond us, but you can read the developer’s reasoning here.

Dragoon is the only job that has received some major overhaul. While it didn’t get any crazy buffs. After all, it has been the top DPS in the past few months.

The major change to Dragoon has been in the way its core gameplay works. Previously the Dragoon’s various jump abilities locked it in place for a certain amount of time.

Now these jumps will only have a visual indicator and won’t change the player’s position. Which means they can now also be executed while bound.

Action Adjustment
Jump Can now be executed while bound.
To improve the functionality of this action, Jump will no longer affect the character’s position as recognized by the server.
The camera will no longer follow your character when executing Jump.
Battle Litany Effect radius has been increased from 15 to 30 yalms.
Dragon Sight Now nullifies action direction requirements for self.
High Jump Can now be executed while bound.
To improve the functionality of this action, High Jump will no longer affect the character’s position as recognized by the server.
The camera will no longer follow your character when executing High Jump.

Quality of Life Changes

A new Final Fantasy XIV patch also means a few improvements to the UI and player experience.

One of the smaller but very appreciated changes is the ability to display Job icons next to a players nameplate and or in the party chat. As well as color their name according to their role when in a party and or party chat.

To access this option, simply hit up Character Configuration > Display Name Settings > General to find all the options.

Now your nameplates can look again just like they did in 1.0, minus your Linkshells chosen banner, but we’re getting there.

Another small but appreciated change is the ability to glamour everything everywhere at once when using the ability in an inn.

For example, if you want to quickly change your glasses but they are stored in your glamour dresser or on a retainer, you can simply access them there without interacting with either.

Other Content Added

While raiders and MSQ enjoyers are eating good this patch, we can’t forget about the more casual content. Some of it isn’t included in 6.4 patch but there are still some things to look forward to.

First up is the expansion of the Island Sanctuary Content. New ranks have been added which will unlock further features of your sanctuary. With that comes a new zone for you to explore and gather materials as well as new things to craft and grow.

We’ll have a guide on all of this shortly.

We can’t forget about Final Fantasy XIV’s best content, Ocean Fishing. With patch 6.4 you’ll be able to go on a fishing trip all the way to Hingashi. The only caveat is that you’ll need to complete the main scenario quest “Stormblood”.

With this new route, the “Ruby Route” players can tackle new voyage missions and fish up new fish! And there’ll are of course new bonuses, achievements, and rewards for completing the content.

What’s still to come for Final Fantasy XIV 6.4 and beyond?

Patch 6.45 content will arrive sometime within the next 2-3 months. This will include the next chapter of the Somehow Further Hildibrand Adventures questline as well as the next step of the Relict Weapons.

This patch will also include the next step in the crafters/gatherers Splendourous Tools which you can earn by completing various requests at the Crystarium.

With the 6.45 patch we’ll also, finally see new content for the limited Blue Mage job. Its level cap will be raised to 80 and new spells, trials, raids, and challenges will be made available for it with new unique rewards to earn.

Last but not least, this patch will also include the next Variant Dungeon and Criterion Dungeon: Mount Rokkon.

The Variant Dungeon is a chose your own adventure experience where players can explore a branching storyline. While the Criterion Dungeon is a challenging affair for 4 players in both its normal and especially its Savage iteration.
