FPX announced its full League of Legends roster for the upcoming 2022 season, hoping to bounce back from a disappointing year in 2021.

FPX only retained Lwx from 2021’s roster
The Chinese organization saw some huge changes in the 2021 off-season. Out of the five players in the last year’s lineup, only ADC Lin “Lwx” Wei-Xiang remained for 2022. As a result, FPX have fully revamped its roster from the ground up, bringing a total of six new players. The new additions are top laner Ping “xiaolaohu” Xiao-Hu, jungler Yang “Beichuan” Ling, mid laner Kim “Gori” Tae-woo, AD carry Luo “jiang” Bai-Jiang and support players Fu “Hang” Ming-Hang and Dang “Lele” Bo-Lin.
FPX wants to bounce back following a terrible end to 2021, as the team was eliminated in the Groups Stage at Worlds. The unexpected results brought the departure of most players, including superstar mid laner Kim “Doinb” Tae-sang (who joined LNG) as well as the Korean top laner Jang “Nuguri” Ha-gwon. The plan of bringing one of the best LoL players of recent times proved to be unsuccessful: Nuguri struggled a lot in adapting to the new environment and the team.
Not only them but former 2019 World Champions jungler Gao “Tian” Tian-Liang and support Liu “Crisp” Qing-Song also left the organization. The first went to Top Esports while the second will be teaming up with the ADC veteran Jian “Uzi” Zi-Hao in BLG.
A look at the new FPX players
The biggest name on the list for this lineup is without a doubt the mid laner Gori. After playing for a stint of one year over in the LCK at Nongshim RedForce, the Korean player returns to the LPL once again. He previously was the substitute mid laner for EDward Gaming (before that he was the sub to Faker). Now, however, Gori will be playing on FPX’s main roster.
Together with Gori, FPX decided to promote xiaolaohu, Beichuan, and jiang from the academy team, FunPlus Phoenix Blaze. Beichuan already had the chance to play on the main team last year, as Tian was facing some health issues and secondary jungler Bo was caught in the match-fixing scandal. Just like Gori, he will now have a chance to prove himself in the LPL.
The two new supports, on the other hand, were picked up by other organizations. Hang previously played as the starting player on Rare Atom, reaching third place in the 2021 LPL Summer Split. Lele, instead, was picked up by the LDL (Chinese Secondary League) team Royal Club and was substitute support for RNG at the beginning of 2021. Out of the two, Hang should be the starting player for the roster while Lele will be filling in from time to time.
The new FPX roster is full of youngsters that are hungry to show their worth on the LPL main stage. With that being said, they will have insane pressure, as they will have to fill in one of the more successful rosters of recent years.
