The wait is almost up and with all major esports bookmakers already featuring a ton of LoL Worlds bets, it’s about time to take you guys for a full tour of the spectacle!

2022 LoL Worlds – Key Facts

  • A total of 24 teams will be participating on the 2022 League of Legends World Championship. Twelve lower-tier seeds will start off from the play-in stage where they’ll have to go through two phases to earn a spot on the main event.
  • The play-in stage starts on September 29th and runs through October 4th. That’s followed by two days of pause after which the main stage will kick off on October 7th.
  • This year’s LoL Worlds has $2,225,000 in prize money. If the last year’s iteration is any indicator, the winning team will get just short of $500,000 or 22% of the total prize pool.
  • 2022 LoL Worlds streams will be available in roughly 20 languages and across several streaming platforms including Twitch and YouTube.
  • The 2022 LoL Worlds will be played on Patch 12.18. Keep in mind, though, that Udyr won’t be available to pick as he wasn’t enabled for the playoffs in all four of the top regions.
  • Now that the Summer Splits of regional championships are done and dusted, the bookies finally presented us with concrete League of Legends odds. The market is packed with all sorts of LoL Worlds 2022 betting options, and it’s on you to choose the optimal ones.

Tournament Format

As mentioned earlier, this event is set to start on the 29th with the play-in stage. It will feature two groups of six teams each. The best team in each group will get a direct spot on the main event, while second to fourth-place teams in each group will have to go through the play-in playoffs to fight for a spot on the main event.

October 7th is the start date for the main event; the group stage, to be more precise. After filling in the blanks with four play-in teams, we’ll get to see four groups packed with bo1 double round-robin action.

The two best teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage that’s set to start on October 20th. Only eight teams will reach this far; this is where the contest switches from bo1s to bo5s as the stakes become extremely high.

It’s 2022 boys and girls. Esports betting is no longer a marginalized niche – it’s as big as some conventional sports betting markets which tells you enough about its popularity.

Just by looking at the available bets two weeks before the play-in stage, you’ll realize that all major online sportsbooks have proper 2022 LoL Worlds betting coverage. This is more than just another esports competition – it’s the pinnacle of the entire season of one of esports betting’s strongest markets.

That said, you shouldn’t really have problems with finding a good place to bet on this year’s League of Legends World Championship. If you have an account at an online bookmaker, it’s likely to suffice.

If you’re just starting out and you’re yet to register somewhere, then check out our list of the top League of Legends betting sites! That piece ought to help you out as it doesn’t just have a list but a lot of supportive information that’ll help you get the most out of your first-ever betting campaign.

Types of 2022 LoL World Championship Bets

Yep – pretty much all online sportsbooks have bets for this tournament. However, not all of them have the same coverage. Some cover just the basics (f.e. match-winners), while others go into more depth with specials and long-terms. The best esports bookmakers have all that plus live betting options that entice lots of esports betting experts onto their platforms.

If that’s the type of website you’re after, here’s what you can expect from them in terms of 2022 LoL World Championship betting options:

Match-Winners

The most straightforward of all bet types here – just pick the team you think will emerge victorious. If you guess right, you’ll win the bet. They don’t come any simpler than this, right? You don’t need to guess anything else but the winner of the match, just like the name of this bet suggests.

Outright Winners

Not only can you bet on the outcomes of individual matches, but you can also bet on the outcome of the entire 2022 LoL World Championship. It’s one of the most popular long-terms for this League of Legends spectacle, so make sure you look into it a bit closer.

There are additional variations on outright winner bet too – for example, region of the winner, team to reach the finals, and more.

Specials

Yep, you can expect a ton of variety in the specials department during the LoL Worlds 2022 spectacle.

What sort of specials are we referring to here? Well, the list goes something like this:

  • Team to draw first blood
  • Team to kill first dragon/Baron
  • Team to destroy the first turret
  • Player/team with most kills
  • Team with most kills after 10 minutes
  • Match duration over/under

Live Bets

This is a massive event so the availability of live betting options comes as no real surprise. Not only will there be live match-winners, but all sorts of specials too. Next kill, next dragon/baron, next turret destroyed, etc. Bookmakers that offer live bets tend to offer a lot of variety, so if that’s what you’re aiming for, betting on LoL Worlds 2022 will be right up your alley.

League of Legends World Championship Outright Winner Odds

League of Legends outrights are currently the most popular LoL Worlds bets. People love these long-term options as they’re valid throughout the tournament… or at least until the team you’ve chosen gets eliminated, that is.

Mind you, instead of having a massive table featuring all 24 contestants, here’s a condensed version featuring teams with tangible chances of lifting the 2022 LoL Worlds trophy:

Team Odds
JD Gaming +250
Top Esports +250
Gen.G +250
T1 +600
Edward Gaming +600
Royal Never Give Up +650
DWG KIA +1100
DRX +2400
Rogue +3900
G2 Esports +3900
Cloud9 +4900

There are three distinctive favorites coming into this competition – JD Gaming, Top Esports, and Gen.G. Their most notable challengers come in the form of T1, Edward Gaming, and Royal Never Give Up. If we’re talking about realistic title challengers here, these six teams are the only teams in the discussion.

Teams to Bet On

Now let’s go through the most notable LoL Worlds contenders and see which of them make the most sense for your outright winner bets:

JD Gaming

According to the bookmakers, JD Gaming are the heavy favorites coming into the 2022 iteration of LoL Worlds… alongside the likes of Top Esports and Gen.G, that is.

And why wouldn’t they be?

JD Gaming won the LPL Summer by beating Top Esports in the grand finals in what was a thrilling 3:2 special treat. They’re strong across the board, have exceptional individuals, and a jungler who can play a wide array of champions.

Their team compositions are diverse, they’re capable of countering their opponents’ gameplan and don’t give up no matter the current score. At the moment, JD Gaming is the most complete team in the world! If they can continue their splendid run of form, they’re going to justify their position as the primary favorites for taking this year’s LoL Worlds!

Top Esports

Top Esports have the exact same odds to win the title as JD Gaming and Gen.G. But, we need to point out that they did lose in the LPL Summer grand finals. Yep, JD Gaming were better and ultimately stole the show in what could’ve been anyone’s match, really.

Top Esports Also Have Top-Notch Players Across All Positions

But, we need to point out their mid-laner knight who’s been an absolute menace throughout the entire LPL Summer Split. He finished with 72.8% kill participation which is the sixth-best record in the season.

When talking about raw kills, knight has been absolutely superb. His kills made up 31.5% of total kills for Top Esports, which goes to show you just how much they had played through their mid lane. If knight can continue playing like he has in the LPL, Top Esports will be a proper menace!

Gen.G

Next up, Gen.G! They were one of the most consistent LCK teams this season. Spring Split saw them finish second after losing to T1 in the grand finals. 3:1 was the final score, with Gen.G ultimately failing to assert dominance and bring their game plan to life.

But, they had their revenge last month by beating T1 3:0 in the Summer playoffs grand finals. Revenge is a dish best served cold, and Gen.G made sure of that.

Top Esports is all about their mid plays. Gen.G, however, was all about their ADC lane. Ruler and Lehends were one level above everyone else. Ruler finished the playoffs with 39% kill share. Only two players were better than him – Prince and deokdam. As for the regular season, he finished second with 37.8%, with Prince being the only player stronger than him in this department.

T1

Moving on with notable contenders from the LCK, let’s talk about the good old T1. Even though they lost the Summer playoff finals against Gen.G, the current T1 roster is not to be taken for granted. They’re still capable of outplaying 99% of the opposition.

Individually, we have to point Oner out as the best performer for T1. He’s the reason why they got all the way to the grand finals of LCK Summer this season. His playoff kill participation amounted to 76.1% which puts him at the 9th overall spot. BeryL was first in this department with an amazing 82.2%, followed by DWG KIA’s Kellin with 82.1%.

T1 is in group A with Cloud9 and Edward Gaming. The third team is yet to be decided. But, looking at the play-in contenders, none should be a real issue for T1… assuming they’re at their best, that is.

Edward Gaming

At +600, is Edward Gaming a solid choice for your 2022 LoL Worlds betting futures? Well, it’s not the worst choice, that’s for sure. We’re talking about the LPL Regional Finals winners following a superb triumph over RNGU in the finals. But, their LPL Summer campaign left much to be desired. The third-place finish was their maximum, though we can all agree that losing to Top Esports isn’t such a bad thing after all.

All in all, if you’re looking for a value bet, then perhaps Edward Gaming isn’t a poor choice. But, if you’re not willing to take the risk of betting on an inconsistent team, then you’re better off investing your money into another betting option.

RNGU

Royal Never Give Up is the next team we need to talk about here. The fallen LPL giants had a terrible run this summer, failing to reach LPL Summer glory after losing to Edward Gaming in the upper bracket quarterfinals. That was a cold shower for RNGU, especially considering the fact they had won the 2022 MSI just a few months earlier.

Thanks to such a poor Summer Split finish, RNGU has been placed in the play-in stage. Play-in group B, to be more precise. They’ll have to go through the hassle of the PI where they’ll need to be at their best to get a chance of playing in the group stage. Can they make it? Yes. But, will they get far once they reach the main event? I don’t think so…

DWG KIA

Last but not least, DWG KIA. Even though they finished fourth on LCK Summer and third on Spring, they won LCK Regional Finals are will be coming into LoL Worlds with solid form. They’re not as strong as they used to be, but they still have quality individuals that can turn the tide in their favor.

When talking about individual performers, DWG KIA’s top star was Kellin. The support created quite the havoc with deokdam all season long. DWG KIA’s bot wasn’t just superb during the regular season but during the playoffs too. Their support, Kellin, finished with 82.1% kill participation which goes to show you he wasn’t just important in the laning phase but during team fights too.
