One of the best events in Hearthstone is back, and we are, of course, talking about the Grandmasters tournament! It has been quite a while since we could watch this series, and while we are still not in the new standard year, there are still exciting things happening in the tournament, like a changed format, a new expansion, and a new mini-set too!
It is important to say that this is the last regular Grandmasters season where we are going to see 48 players from their respective regions (Americas, Europe, and Asia-Pacific) battle their way to the spot in the Hearthstone 2022 World Championship.
When is the event going live?
The first thing is establishing when the event begins and how long it is going to last. Season 1 will begin on Friday, February 25, 2022, and it is going to last for four weeks. Same as last year, you will be able to tune in to watch the event live on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, where players will gather points over the first three weeks.
After the first three weeks, there is going to be a one-week break before players can enter Playoffs in the final week, which is going to be from March 25 to 27. Broadcasting times will go for each region as follows:
- ASIA-PACIFIC: 2 a.m. PST / 11 a.m. CET / 7 p.m. KST
- EUROPE: 7:00 a.m. PST / 4:00 p.m. CET / 12:00 a.m. KST
- AMERICAS: 12 p.m. PST / 9 p.m. CST / 5 a.m. KST
What is the format?
Something that all fans of esports betting are excited about when it comes to this Grandmasters tournament is that the format is getting a little bit of spice in the form of a new experimental format called “Trio”, which will be featured in the 2nd week of the tournament. This new format seems very exciting, especially if you are tired of seeing the same classes brought by all the top players.
In Trio, the Hearthstone esports officials are going to create five unique groups that have three classes each. Groups may share a class or two, and players will have to pick between these groups and not bring their own.
After picking a group, each player will submit a three-deck lineup. This means that there are no going to be bans in this format, and players who hate playing against a certain class will just have to suck it up and prove that they can face anything. Of course, all of the group selections are going to be private, so players will not be able to construct the decks against the most picked classes to increase their odds.
We are really excited to see this format in action, as it is definitely the best way for everyone to look up those Hearthstone top decks that will help you climb the ladder and reach that legend rank for the spicy monthly rewards.
The first season of Grandmasters begins this Friday!

Return of drops
While you will not be rewarded for watching the best Hearthstone streamers play the game, if you tune in to watch the tournament, you will be getting some free packs, which is something that all Hearthstone players enjoy, especially if it gives them a (wow) golden legendary. You can earn up to 4 packs total, 2 in the first three weeks and 2 in the Playoffs.
Who are the favorites?
Since this is the last time each region will be playing its own thing, let us discuss which players are the favorites to qualify for the Hearthstone 2022 World Championship:
- In the Americas, we have quite a few good players, and it looks like we are going to watch intense action between Monsanto, DreadEye, McBanterface, and Nalguidan.
- In Europe, we will get to see Gaby, Jarla, Rdu, Frenetic, and Viper, who are the returning favorites to the tournament, and some of these had the chance to play in the Hearthstone 2021 World Championship.
- Asia-Pacific, by far the most substantial region in Hearthstone for the past two years(as the winners of HS WC were from this region) features some exciting players. We have Posesi, the winner of last year’s Hearthstone World Championship, Alutenmu, glory, GivePLZ, and Grr.
Of course, the meta is entirely different, so it is essentially anyone’s game, which is exactly why you should tune in and watch the matches play out, especially in week 2, when the new Trio format is going to be played for the first time.
