A mixture of tier-one gatekeepers and promising tier-two projects will get a rare chance to lift a trophy on LAN, as the Global Esports Tour Rio 2024 is set to begin shortly. Who are the Title Contenders?
8 teams will battle through a double elimination bracket, with the Upper Final and Consolidation Final winners meeting in the Grand Final. A 1st place finish will net the winning team $100,000, while the runners-up will have to make do with $50,000. The opening matches and the Upper Bracket semi-finals will be played in a BO1 format, with the rest of the games being BO3s. These are the teams with the strongest chances of lifting this trophy at this event:
FURIA (3.5 / +250)
While all five South American teams in attendance are capable of doing some damage in this tournament, FURIA, well-know to all CS2 betting fans, still have the reputation of being the top dog in the region. However, they are coming into the Global Esports Tour Rio 2024 straight off the back of a roster change, removing their previous IGL Andrei “arT” Piovezan and replacing him with an academy prospect Kayke “kye” Bertolucci.
With the experienced sniper Gabriel “Fallen” Toledo likely taking over the in-game leadership mantle, FURIA may need time to adjust their style and reinvent their playbook. This means that their level of performance in Rio is a serious question mark coming into their home event.

The Brazilians of paiN set the world alight at the PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen, where they almost made it to the arena, missing out in the deciding 2-2 game to the eventual winners NAVI. At the forefront of their accomplishments was Rodrigo “biguzera” Bittencourt. The IGL was on point in his calling as well as his fragging, which netted him the title of the highest-rated player of the Opening Stage of the previous Major.
With a squad of talented youngsters accompanied by an exceptional caller, leading by example on and off the server, paiN have what it takes to win this tournament and establish themselves as the best CS2 team in Brazil and South America as a whole.

Despite OG being nowhere when it comes to the tier-one title picture in recent years, they seem to have found some steam with the most recent iteration of their international roster. The organization came very close to acquiring its first Counter-Strike trophy in the recently finished Skyesports Masters 2024 event, where after beating several decent squads (ENCE, BIG, NIP, BetBoom), they ultimately fell short against Aurora in the BO5 Grand Final.
This recent upturn in form could be a sign of OG finally finding a cohesive five-man squad that can work well together and grind towards a shared goal. However, it has to be said that OG historically tends to overperform in online games and get worse on LAN. Let’s hope that won’t be the case at the Global Esports Toru Rio 2024.
