We can all agree that 2021 was an amazing year for esports when it comes to World of Warcraft. While we all thought that the same is not going to happen in 2022 due to all the struggles Blizzard is going through due to some scandals within the company, we actually got an announcement for the 2022 esports plan that seems quite promising, especially for all esports betting lovers.
The Great Push Returns!
One of the best and most exciting events by far in 2021 was The Great Push, it was the most viewed event of the WoW MDI last year too. This year, Blizzard is bringing it back as a part of the MDI Season 3. TGP is going to be back as a multi-weekend mini-season event that will award $210,000 in prizes after the conclusion of MDI Global Finals for Season 3.
Regarding the MDI seasonal format, it is going to have the same groups format from Season 2. Dungeon running teams can register for season Time Trials that start March 30th. Top 24 teams from Time Trials are going to advance to groups, and from there, they will race to share weekly prize pools of $30,000 and gain invites to the Global Finals. At the end of the season, Global Finals will have a $300,000 prize pool.
Arena World Championship
While not everyone is a fan of WoW PVP, it is certainly an exciting game mode, especially when played by some of the best WoW streamers out there. This year, the first season cups will start off on March 18th, and you can already sign up if you are from Europe or North America.
Like last year, these two regions will have weekly competitions that will have $10,000 in prizing, and players that display their skills will gain points to advance them further in the AWC Circuit. The top eight teams from each region from the weekly cups will advance to the next stage, which is a four-week round robin with a prize pool of $320,000.
You might think that’s all, but no, there is more! After the Circuit, the top 4 teams from each region will earn their spots for the Grand Finals event, which will offer $300,000 in prize money.
Classic Arena Tournament
If you are not a huge fan of the newest expansion, Shadowlands, and more of a classic TBC fan, then this year’s esports has something in store for you as well. Similar to the AWC, players from Europe and North America can already sign up until February 9th, 2022 to participate in this 3v3 tournament.
The format for this event is not completely clear yet, but it is known that the prize pool is $100,000. The first games will be played on the 12th and 13th of February, while the last three days of the tournament are going to be 18th, 19th, and 20th February.
It feels good that every WoW fan is going to be getting something when it comes to competitive esports this year, lets just hope that Blizzard does not do any shenanigans internally to mess up their own plans.
