Even though some people seem to be underestimating them, I for one believe OpTic will ace their group without a single loss and steamroll to the playoffs. FNS has plenty of experience and it should prove crucial on such a massive event. He’s been making all the right calls match in and match out – OpTic would not be on the same level if it wasn’t for him.
At +400, OpTic is given the same chance as Paper Rex. Both seem like valuable options, but I just have to put OpTic an inch above… because of their consistency, if nothing else.
OpTic to Win Valorant Champions 2022 at +400
Paper Rex
Paper Rex is a Southeast Asian Valorant team based in Singapore. They’ve been on top of the APAC region for quite a while now, but they’re yet to assert dominance and win an international title. This is the perfect stage for them to go down in history books.
As mentioned earlier, Paper Rex have the exact same odds to win the event like OpTic. I can see where the bookies are coming from. Paper Rex’s results are pretty good. They’re the dominant team on APAC, Malaysia and Singapore events; four from four this year. On international events, Reykjavik and Copenhagen, they finished fourth and second, respectively.
The bookies are giving them excellent chances here because they almost went all the way in Copenhagen last month. 3:2 was the final score, in favor of FPX of course, but it could’ve just as easily gone the other way around too.
Paper Rex to Win Valorant Champions 2022 at +400
Fnatic
Let’s not forget about Fnatic, boys and girls! The arrival of Enzo and Alfajerthis May has given the team a dash of fresh air. Their EMEA Stage 2 Challengers run was fantastic, beating FPX 3:0 in the grand finals. But, ANGE1 and the boys did have their revenge just a month later. A quick reminder – FPX eliminated Fnatic from Masters Copenhagen. Fnatic finished fourth in the end.
All things considered, Fnatic has the individual quality to battle with the world’s best. They weren’t half bad last time out (in Berlin), but with two new players in their roster, this is a totally different roster… one that might lack cohesion and even experience in the final stages of the event.
For that reason, I just can’t recommend going with Fnatic here. There are far better options, like the ones mentioned earlier.
Loud
The Brazilians had a great start to the season. They swept through the Brazilian Challengers and reached the grand finals of Masters Reykjavik. OpTic stopped them from making a sensation.
In the second part of the season, though, Loud continued their BR Challengers domination but failed to assert dominance in Copenhagen. They were eliminated in the group stage following losses to KRU and OpTic.
At the moment, Loud to win Champions Istanbul is at +600. It does seem like a sweet deal, but considering the fact Loud’s form is in a downward spiral, I just don’t think it’s worth it.
100 Thieves
Finally, 100 Thieves. Where’s Sentinels, some of you ought to be wondering. How should I put this lightly… Sentinels got their a** whooped by 100 Thieves in the lower bracket quarterfinals who went on to defeat The Guard 3:0 in the finals and qualify for the Istanbul special.
But, are 100 Thieves really that good or was the LCQ campaign just a lucky break? Well, 100T players have proven their worth earlier this month, that’s for sure. But, when it comes to actually betting on them to win Champions Istanbul, you have to account for their inconsistency.
Plus, they couldn’t even win lower-tier events where they kept on losing against teams who (at least on paper) aren’t on the same level. That said, while 100 Thieves are in top form right now, the fact that they’re inconsistent and just recently made their big breakthrough would make me think twice before making an investment.
Wrapping Things Up
The first ever Valorant Champions, last year’s iteration, was truly amazing. Acend defeated Gambit in the finals, leaving the entire Verti Music Hall cheering in awe. The finals had roughly 1,089,000 peak viewers. The average viewership was exceptional too – just shy of 470,000.
This year’s iteration is bound to be even better. It’s going to have superior production quality, likely a bigger cash prize, and hopefully even more action.
