Despite Vitality being a top three team in CS2, many people had doubts regarding their level of performance in the Major and how they might fare against Cloud9. However, Dan “apeX” Madesclaire and his troops proved the haters wrong and dominated their opposition. After their struggles at the beginning of the Elimination Stage and the difficulties they had in qualifying for the playoffs, very few people expected FaZe to go beyond the quarter-finals, especially after they were matched up against the favorites of Spirit. Their 0-5 map record against the Russians, and the devastating loss they suffered in the IEM Katowice 2024 Grand Final, didn’t bode well for their chances in the rematch.
While everything was stacked against them, FaZe once again proved that they are a big match team, and they belong in the Major playoffs, beating Spirit in a thrilling three-map affair, which could go down as one of the best Counter-Strike Major quarter-finals of all time. They wouldn’t have done it without their leader – Finn “karrigan” Andersen, who led by example both in the calling and fragging departments.
A Major win on home soil would be the crowning achievement of karrigan’s career, but FaZe’s journey to the trophy has only just begun. The last time they faced Vitality in the Royal Arena, they fell short in the BLAST World Final Grand Final, so they’ll be eager to avenge themselves for the second time in Copenhagen.
