Smash Bros creator unsure if future Smash Bros game could ever match Ultimate's Scope

There can be no doubt that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch family of systems was one content-packed video game. Inevitably, another Smash Bros. game will be made in the future. However, series creator Masahiro Sakurai has said in a new video that he is doubtful that a new Smash Bros. game could live up to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in terms of the amount of content and ideas. He says he is not sure what comes next for the beloved Nintendo franchise. Though he did conclude by saying that every time he has worked on a Smash Bros. game, he has never thought he would surpass its predecessor in terms of ideas and content. Here’s what Mr. Sakurai said:

“As for what comes next for the Smash Bros. series, even I’m not sure. I feel we truly succeeded in making people happy with this game, but now that Smash Bros. has grown to be monstrous in size, I’d say it’s difficult to imagine an increase of this magnitude happening again.

“Every time, we managed to make a game that I had previously thought impossible, so I can’t say for certain there won’t be another, but I do think it would be difficult to push it any further than we have.”
