Overwatch 2 Hotfixes: What’s the effect on Roadhog, Sojourn and Kiriko?

How are the Overwatch 2 hotfixes affecting Roadhog, Sojourn and Kiriko? We take a closer look.

Although we are a few days away from the arrival of Overwatch 2 Season 3, Blizzard decided to release a small hotfix. Even though it didn’t address many heroes, we finally received the much-needed nerfs to heroes like Roadhog. In fact, you can learn everything about the hero changes by taking a look at our in-depth article.

It’s been a couple of days since the new update arrived, which means that we managed to play plenty of games. That’s why we’ve decided to share our experience regarding the effect of the current update on Roadhog, Kiriko, and Sojourn. Some people will be happy with everything new, whereas others might dislike these heroes’ current state, so let’s dive in.

Roadhog

Aside from Sojourn, who received countless nerfs, Roadhog is probably the most annoying and strongest Overwatch 2 hero. The tank has been dominating the current meta for several months now. In fact, he is the only tank that “survived” the nerf waves and was the go-to option in Seasons 1 & 2.

The main reason for Roadhog’s effectiveness was the hero’s ability to one-shot squishy targets. His hook and fire + melee attack combo was devastating and easily killed every 200 HP hero in Overwatch 2. Needless to say, players used it all the time while playing and had little to no counters.

In addition to his offensive capabilities, Roadhog is the Overwatch 2 tank with the highest HP in the game. He also can heal himself, which makes him really hard to kill.

Although Blizzard didn’t change anything to his HP, they’ve introduced a couple of important nerfs, such as the one to his Chain Hook. Following the changes, the hero’s hook now deals 5 instead of 30 impact damage. On top of that, the enemy’s final position after Hog hooks it is 3 instead of 4 meters.

Aside from the hook changes, Hog’s Scrap Gun also got a lot of new things. The weapon’s damage per bullet is now 6 instead of 6.6, and the recovery time is down from 0.85 to 0.8. On top of that, Scrap Gun’s reload time is down to 1.75s from 2s, and its maximum ammo is now 6 instead of 5.

The effects on Roadhog

As expected, Overwatch 2 players who spammed Roadhog are unhappy with the hero’s changes. Following the nerf to his hook, he can no longer land one-shots. This may not seem like a big deal, but players must change their playstyle completely because flanking with Hog is not always worth it.

In addition to his inability to one-shot, the changes to Roadhog also affect some matchups. He is not as strong as before when playing against certain heroes. Since he can’t kill DPS and Supports on his own, one wrong move means that the hero will be out of position and he will die.

An interesting thing we’ve noticed while playing Roadhog in Overwatch 2 is that he is better at environmental kills. Since the targets are 4m away from you, you can definitely surprise some of your opponents who aren’t expecting it.

Kiriko

All of the Overwatch 2 new heroes had a massive effect on the game, and Kiriko is no exception. The newest support has been dominating the meta for 2 months, which is why she became one of the most famous heroes in the game.

Even though the recent hotfix does not introduce that many nerfs, there is one important thing that players need to remember. Her Healing Ofuda recovery time is now 1s instead of 0.85s. This means that the targets will need slightly more time to heal up.

This change is not that significant, and it will likely not have an effect on most players. The general rules when it comes down to playing Kiriko apply, which means you have to be careful when deciding how many cards you will use to heal your target.

After watching some of the best Kiriko players on Twitch, most of them are unhappy with the changes. Healing your allies is now a bit harder, and you have to be careful when deciding when and what to use.

Sojourn

The last hero that received some changes yet again is Sojourn, Overwatch 2’s latest DPS. She was the strongest hero in the game and one of the main reasons why so many people reached their desired rank. However, after the many changes, most players can agree that she feels balanced.

The Overwatch 2 hotfix from a couple of days ago only changed one thing to Sojorun, and that’s her Railgun. Following the changes, her energy gain is no longer based on the damage she deals with her primary fire. Instead, each primary fire shot that hits an enemy will grant her 5 energy. On top of that, the primary fire projectile is now 9 instead of 10.

To be fair, we didn’t notice that big of a difference while playing with Sojourn. It may seem like the hero goes nerfed, but unless you hit your Railgun shots, you won’t do much in general. That’s why we think that these changes will most likely affect the higher-level Overwatch 2 players.

Aside from all of these changes, the Overwatch 2 hotfix also gave us access to a couple of big fixes. The latter affected Wrecking Ball, Lucio, Rein, and Sojourn.

Following the update, all we can do is wait for the upcoming Season 3 and all of the changes we will have access to.
