Valorant Pro Team: Sentinels were defeated by Version1 in dramatic fashion in their second consecutive playoff series at NA VCT Challengers One.
They are no longer eligible to compete in Masters Reykjavik, and will miss their first ever appearance at an international VALORANT LAN.
Sentinels got off to a strong start in the series with their own selection of Haven, helped along by a stellar performance from TenZ on Jett.
TenZ has been hot and cold throughout Challengers One, with a total 34 kills across four maps in Sentinels’ group stage match against V1 and their first playoff match against The Guard.
He got 31 kills versus V1 today on Haven alone, delivering in every setup his teammates put up for him and bearing the weight in a 13-7 victory.
Early on, Version1 appeared to be cruising to victory on Ascent, racing up to a 5-0 lead on their offensive side. Sentinels rallied on defence, with TenZ waking up and the entire team punishing V1’s lethargic style of play with quick rotations, resulting in a 6-6 tie at halftime.
V1 demonstrated why they selected Ascent for defence by slamming the door on Sentinels’ site captures with utility. In the second half, both teams came close, but V1 came out on top 13-9, catching off flanks and choking off post-plant locations during their own retakes to send the series to Fracture.
After penny highlighted V1’s attack side with some major plays on the Op and Chamber’s Tour De Force, the series was decided in the second half of Fracture, with both teams deadlocked 6-6. Early in the second half, ShahZaM kept V1 from pulling away, but a shifty thrifty round from V1 wrecked the Sentinels’ momentum and economy. With a 13-8 victory over the Sentinels, V1 secured the series and their postseason survival.
Given Sentinels’ NA domination throughout 2021 and Version1’s rock solid 5-0 group stage run this year, the pairing of Sentinels and Version1 in this area of the bracket was surely a surprise to spectators. Sentinels haven’t been playing their best VALORANT, according to ShahZaM, and must now rediscover it before the start of Stage Two.
Their adventure is far from done for Version1. They still need to win three consecutive series to go to Iceland, and their next opponent, Cloud9, is a familiar rival.
