5 Things Overwatch 2 Players Learn The Hard Way

Here’s an overview of the current state of Overwatch 2 and what to expect in the future.

It may be hard to believe, but Overwatch 2 will become 6 months old in just a couple of days from now. Although some of us may think that the game became available just recently, we’re already on Season 3. In fact, Season 4 of Overwatch 2 is close, and you can learn more about some of the things we expect to see.

With that said, the Overwatch 2 game direction reviewed the game, everything the team worked on, and what to expect from it in the future. With the recent announcement of CS2 from Valve, Blizzard will have to step up their game if they want to keep their game interesting. Although CS2 and OW2 are two completely different games, they definitely share some of their players.

With that said, here’s an Overwatch 2 six months overview and some of the things we expect to see in the future.

Aaron Keller addresses the communication problem

One of the things that Overwatch 2 players complained about is that the developer team isn’t doing enough to communicate with its players. To be honest, most of us didn’t expect this to change, but as we’ve seen in the last couple of weeks, things are different. In fact, Aaron Keller addressed this in his most recent statement, where he said the team had been focused on communication and put a lot of energy into giving information about the game.

Although some people may not appreciate it, we have to say that OW2’s devs are doing a much better job than expected. By keeping us up to date with everything new, they allow us to be prepared for what is to come.

One of the interesting takeaways from what Aaron said about this topic is that the team plans on releasing roadmaps. The idea behind them is to allow every Overwatch 2 fan to know what to expect from the game in a longer timeframe. Aaron concluded by saying that he and the team will discuss it more in the foreseeable future.

The current and future state of the Overwatch 2 supports

Everyone who plays Overwatch 2 right now that being a support is not easy. There are so many top-tier DPS in the current meta that makes the life of every support a living hell. It seems like the Overwatch 2 devs are aware of it because Aaron Keller addressed it in his statement.

According to him, the team has been working on the feedback from players that some heroes could be better at surviving. He said that the team has been trying to do a couple of things to fix this problem. For example, it has reduced the ability of damage heroes to disrupt the enemy backline, they’ve given support additional tools and exercised some restraint.

After addressing some of the issues, the Overwatch 2 director explained some of the things the team has done to fix this problem. For starters, he said that the DPS heroes no longer have their speed passive, which nerfed their flanking capabilities. On top of that, some support theories like Zenyatta and Brigitte received buffs.

What’s interesting is that the Overwatch 2 Director admits he and his team made a mistake by buffing Mercy’s Guardian Angel too much. In fact, he said that overcorrections would be addressed in Season 4, meaning we can expect a lot of changes to Mercy once again.

The last thing we’ve learned regarding the Overwatch 2 supports was that the team plans on adding two new heroes in his position in Seasons 4 and 6. This proves that the next two Overwatch 2 heroes will be supports and we will get the first one as soon as Season 4 arrives.

Collaborations

Blizzard is known for doing all kinds of collaborations for some of their games, such as World of Warcraft. Even though Overwatch 2 didn’t get that many yet, the recent One-Punch Man was a huge success.

According to Aaron Keller, he and the team were a bit worried about “blending another universe”. Fortunately, things worked out well, and players were happy with the changes. Consequently, he said that this collab had given the team the confidence to do more things like that in the future. Of course, we’re yet to see what will happen.

The competitive system

Overwatch 2 Season 3 - One Punch Man

One of the most important things that Overwatch 2 players are interested in is the competitive system in the game. People had all sorts of questions about it once the game launched, and it seems like the Overwatch 2 devs have been listening to them.

According to Aaron, one of the big issues was that players weren’t happy with the partial rating reset at the start of each season. It seems like the devs agree that this is not working out, so it will not be a thing in Season 4.

With that said, the Overwatch 2 team is still debating as to whether to add a rating reset in the Competitive System. We do not have a clear answer yet, but there might be a yearly recent.

Another new thing we’ll have access to in Overwatch 2 Season 4 is the addition of extra information about players’ match performance. For example, the new season will allow players to check their win/loss record and progress toward a new rating. Moreover, the devs might give us more details regarding the skill range of the players in a specific match.

Addressing players’ feedback about the fact that the game is not rewarding

The last thing that Blizzard addresses in the latest Overwatch 2 statement is the fact that some players don’t feel the game is rewarding. Aaron addressed three essential things:

  • Players want to be able to get items they want without having to grind for several days/weeks.
  • Overwatch 2 fans want the game to reward their time and skills and display them to others.
  • Most players want to show off their performance when they do something cool.

It seems like the Overwatch 2 devs are listening to their fan base because they’ve made several changes. First, the different OW 2 events now have skins that people can earn, and they can also get credits to the Battle Pass that will allow them to get all original OW skins.

The devs also increase the XP earned from each match, and they plan on making changes to the Play of the Game and the On Fire system. Interestingly, we’ve learned that there will be an improved progression system that will replace the old one.
