A recent source claims that the 7.00 update for the PlayStation 5 will provide complete Discord integration and the ability to stream PS5 games through the cloud.
The PlayStation 5 will be able to broadcast games via the cloud, and sources have confirmed that Discord will be integrated into this process.
It has been announced that this function will be available in the premium tier of PlayStation Plus. Sources claimed that the feature, codenamed “Cronus,” has been in the works for several months.
According to Insider Gaming, the public beta should be available in the next few days, and the major firmware update is set for March 8, 2023.
The new capability to stream PS5 games over the cloud, however, is likely to take precedence over the testing of Discord integration during the beta. Members of PlayStation Plus Premium, the service’s priciest tier, will apparently be the only ones able to stream PS5 games.
Sony’s efforts to strengthen ties between PlayStation and Discord have been well-documented. In May 2021, Sony President and CEO Jim Ryan stated that the company would be partnering with Discord, saying, “Our teams are already hard at work combining Discord with your social and gaming experience on PlayStation Network.”
Ryan said “enabling friends, groups, and communities to hang out, have fun, and interact more readily while playing games together” will bring the two platforms together.
Currently, PSN IDs and the games being played on PS4 and PS5 can be displayed on the Discord profiles of PlayStation users who have linked their accounts.
Discord integration on PS5 is unknown, but it’s likely to work as it does on Xbox platforms, which acquired complete integration in September 2022 for all users. Xbox players can utilize Discord for voice chat and connect to its servers without leaving their game console.
Sony has just published version 6.50 for the PS5, and it supports the new DualSense Edge controller. On January 26, the DualSense Edge, like Xbox’s Elite controller, will have mappable back buttons, configurable sticks, trigger depth adjustment, and more.
