The Houston Outlaws take the 6th position in our Overwatch League 2022 Power Rankings. The team changed most of its roster from last season but signed some interesting pickups.
Houston Outlaws 2022 Roster
Tank:
- Min-jun “PIGGY ” Shin
The sole tank of Houston Outlaws this season is Min-jun “PIGGY ” Shin. He already played with Houston Outlaws last year, making a name for himself with his Sigma play. During his rookie season, he still managed to be one of the best off-tank players in the League. As Overwatch 2 is shifting to a single-tank meta, PIGGY will be the only one bearing the tank role in the team. His playstyle is rather aggressive, which should suit well in this new 5v5 dynamic.
Support:
- Seung-hyun “Ir1s” Kim
- Jung-won “Lastro” Mun
For this new Overwatch League Season, Houston Outlaws counts on two flex support players: Seung-hyun “Ir1s” Kim and Jung-won “Lastro” Mun. Ir1s played with Atlanta Reign last season, reaching 2nd place in the Overwatch League 2021 Playoffs with his signature Baptiste pick. Lastro spent last year with Toronto Defiant, helping the team reach the Western Play-In. Even if both players share a similar hero pool, Overwatch 2 is a more aggressive game than the original one and should give enough place for two flex support players in a single team.
DPS:
- Dante “Danteh” Cruz
- Se-hyun “Pelican” Oh
- Tae-min “MER1T” Choi
The most iconic player of Houston Outlaws, Dante “Danteh” Cruz, is back with the team for a new Overwatch League season. He mainly plays flanker heroes such as Tracer and Sombra, as well as Echo or Mei. Danteh is the only Western player in an otherwise fully Korean roster.
Competing with Danteh on flex DPS heroes is the winner of last year’s Rookie of the Year award, Se-hyun “Pelican” Oh. He contributed to Atlanta Reign reaching 2nd place in the Overwatch League 2021 Playoffs. Both Danteh and Pelican share a similar hero pool, so they will most likely have to replace one another during the season.
The only hitscan player of Houston Outlaws is Tae-min “MER1T” Choi. This rookie dominated the Korean Contenders with O2 Blast and RunAway, killing enemies from afar with both snipers and hitscan heroes.
Houston Outlaws 2022 Power Rankings
Houston Outlaws are heading into the Overwatch League 2022 Season with a solid roster. PIGGY is one of the best tanks in the League, especially considering the new 5v5 meta. The Houston Outlaws’ DPS line features the reigning Rookie of the Year, as well as a veteran in the League and a promising rookie from Contenders. The supports are also strong, even if not the best players in the League.
The main issue Houston Outlaws could face this year is its lack of versatility. PIGGY is a good tank, but cannot play all heroes at the highest level. Both support players share the same hero pool, and none masters main support heroes. The only hitscan player of the team is making his first steps in the Overwatch League, and while he performed great in Contenders, this may not immediately translate against the best Overwatch players.
Overall, Houston Outlaws has the potential to rank high this Season, and could even reach the Playoffs if the meta is in their favor.
