Sojourn is one of the new heroes joining Overwatch 2. While she might be similar to Soldier 76, she got a lot more to her than that.
We’ve reviewed Junker Queen, the newest tank in Overwatch 2. Therefore, it is time to focus on the latest DPS hero in the game – Sojourn. The latter was one of the characters we had access to during the beta, and it is safe to say that she is one of the best in the game.
Sojourn is mobile and has the potential to do a lot of damage, making him one of the go-to options in Overwatch 2. Those who had access to the beta have an idea of what she’s capable of, but others don’t know what to expect. So, let’s go learn more about the hero and how to dominate while playing.
Sojourn General information
Before we cover some more in-depth things, it is essential to know that Sojourn is one of the heroes with the highest skill cap in the game. She is among the DPS that actually needs to land her shots to deal damage. This is especially true for her right mouse click, which can win fights on its own. The fact that the hero is more challenging to play than most other DPS in the game means that it is not ideal for inexperienced players.
Fortunately, those who want to improve with the Sojourn can practice a lot until they eventually learn how to make the most of it.
Keep your distance
One of the first things you have to learn once you start playing with Sojourn is that you need to keep your distance. Some heroes in Overwatch can work in close-range combat, and some even excel in such positions. Sadly, Sojourn is definitely not one of them because this character needs to be in a mid to long-range distance.
Besides the fact that she does not have any close-range abilities, Sojourn is one of the few heroes (for now) that does not have damage falloff. In other words, it doesn’t matter whether you are next to your opponent or shooting at it from miles away – you will do the same damage. This is very powerful and one of the big reasons why we think the hero will have a crucial role among professional players.
Practice your right clicking
We won’t go into detail regarding Sojourn’s abilities because Blizzard allows you to learn everything about them in seconds. That said, it is essential to remember that you can charge your secondary fire mode by doing damage with your primary fire mode.
Once your laser has a 100% charge, it has the power to do some severe damage, especially if you land a headshot. Sadly, hitting your targets is easier said than done, so you need to practice before you start playing.
Once you learn how to land your shots, your potential target is the second thing to consider. Using the beam on the tank might be a good idea in some cases, but usually, it is better to focus on something else. That’s because a headshot with a 100% charged laser could instantly kill some DPS and healers.
In other words, be sure not to waste your beam and try to get a kill when it is fully charged. Even if you don’t kill a given target instantly, you will bring its HP down, allowing your team to land a kill.
Speaking of using your laser, this is also Sojourn’s ultimate. It will allow you to cast “free lasers” while it is active, so you can try to get at least a few kills during that time. That said, since this ultimate only lasts a couple of seconds, you may want to fire as many beams as possible to make the most of it.
Don’t forget that there aren’t that many shields in Overwatch 2, which means you can do a lot of pressure, even on tanks.
Your Power Slide can be a reliable escape tool
Some people who start playing with Sojourn are impressed by her ability to move fast and jump in the air. As a result, they use this ability offensively or when they want to get to a specific location. This is good in some situations, but it is also important to remember that Sojourn can use this ability defensively.
To take advantage of this, simply use one of your direction keys (A, S, D), followed by the hotkey for the ability. This will allow you to Power Slide to the given location and (potentially) dodge specific skills and heroes.
Unsurprisingly, there are many situations where this can come in handy, especially on maps with many hiding spots, such as the Temple of Anubis. Always think carefully and do not waste this ability for no reason. Your opponents who have experience with Sojourn will wait until you’ve used your ability and start pressing you immediately after that. This will allow them to secure an easy kill because you won’t be able to survive.
Use Disruptor Shot to block areas of the map
One of Sojourn’s abilities is called Disruptor Shot, which allows the hero to fire an energy orb that deals a total of 210 damage over 4 seconds. The damage might not be enough to bring down a tank, but it will be enough to land a kill on a healer or DPS. Naturally, enemies simply walk away from it or try to avoid it in the first place.
Even if you don’t do that much damage, you can actually use this ability to block certain areas on the map. Using it won’t prevent your opponents from moving, but they may decide to wait until it is over so that they don’t take any damage. This will allow you and your team to take advantage of the situation and push.
Conclusion
As you can guess, we can’t include everything in one article because Sojourn is still new to the game, and we discover something different every day. All we can say is that the hero has a lot of potential, and it is definitely one of the best right now. However, it requires you to know what you’re doing if you want to be successful. Hence, make sure you practice as much as possible.
