Japan now has an esports team for senior citizens aged 66 to 73 — Matagi Snipers

S2 Co, an IT firm from Japan, has just launched the very first professional esports team made up of senior citizens.

The team, also known as Matagi Snipers, consists of both men and women aged between 66 and 73 years old.

Based in Akita Prefecture (West Japan), the team will focus on playing shooting games.

According to a report by Yahoo! JP, the team plans to participate in competitive esports events starting from April 2022.

Team members currently train 3 times a week, and are in the midst of preparing their first live-stream scheduled to take place this October.

Currently over 38% of Akita Prefecture’s total population are aged 65 and above.
