The founder and managing director of Games Done Quick (GDQ), Mike Uyama, has announced that he’ll be stepping down from the role and “taking a break” after the 2023 Awesome Games Done Quick Online event. The current GDQ operations director, Matt Merkle, will take over the role.

The first Games Done Quick event took place in 2010, and was broadcast from the basement of Uyama’s mother’s house. Over the 13 years since, the organisation has raised more than $41 million for charities including the Prevent Cancer Foundation and Médecins Sans Frontières.
