The undisputed GOAT of competitive Call of Duty has announced his retirement heading into the 2023 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II season. Ian “Crimsix” Porter has been a staple of the Call of Duty scene, starting his career 16 year ago at the age of 13, and finally hanging up his controller today at 29.
Crimsix’s Career
Crimsix began his Call of Duty competitive career back in 2008, and has continued to be one of the best in the game ever since. With 38 major tournament wins in his career, Crimsix is the winningest player in Call of Duty and console esports, with over $1.4million in prize earnings to his name.
2014, 2017 and 2020 World Championship wins also see him equal the highest number of World Championships at 3, showing that he was truly one of the best. In an announcement video, Crimsix explains his reasons for retirement, and his plans for the future.
In an emotional video, Crimsix said:
“Time always wins. Right now, guys, I’m 29, the competition are all like 18 to 22, and it’s honestly a huge generational gap. It’s something I found myself struggling to deal with. All my friends from the space no longer play. There’s a reason for that. In the last 5 years it so it’s been a struggle of mine. Even just to communicate simple things. Ultimately that’s some what my downfall”
“I’m scared… I’m scared shitless guys. It’s been 16 years. It’s the only thing I’ve ever truly known” said Crimsix in his retirement video, “everyone who has supported me throughout the years… thank you.”
For now, Crimsix will move to content. He says he will compete in Warzone 2 tournaments, while creating content around his passions, including sim racing, track days, and shooting. While this is a sad day for competitive Call of Duty fans, it’s good to know that Crimsix will continue to create content and provide us with his personality for years to come.
