CDL 2023 Major 2 – Day 2 Recap

Here’s a recap of the second day of CDL 2023 Major 2.

The Call of Duty League returned to LAN as we went to Boston for the second Major of the 2023 season. With five great matches today, here’s all the action from day two of CDL 2023 Major 2 in Boston.

New York Subliners 3-1 London Royal Ravens

The New York Subliners started this series with a bang, taking a 250-164 Hotel Hardpoint victory to kick off the series. The Subliners have looked great in Hotel Hardpoint all season, so this map was almost a write-off, and the Search and Destroy map two is where this series really begins. However, it was a well-played Hardpoint by the New York Subliners, with Skyz dominating, putting up 29 kills and a 1.61 K/D.

The London Royal Ravens tied the series 1-1 with a 6-2 Mercado Search and Destroy win. This was a map that the New York Subliners have only played once all season, and this allowed the Ravens to get an advantage in the vetoes here, getting two Search and Destroy maps that they have positive records on for this series. However, we return to Hotel for map three Control, seeing the match swing back in favor of the Subliners. As expected, the New York Subliners took a 2-1 lead in this series through a 3-1 Hotel Control victory. Kismet returned to his best as he put up a massive 29 kills and a 1.81 K/D in this map three Control to put his team on series point.

The London Royal Ravens Major 2 journey was over in map four as the New York Subliners took this Fortress Hardpoint 250-165. The SMG duo of Kismet and Hydra were excellent again as NYSL ran through the London Royal Ravens and sent them home.

Boston Breach 3-1 Seattle Surge

The home team of Boston Breach now finds themselves in the losers bracket, against a tough opponent in Seattle Surge. Embassy Hardpoint was the location for map one and unsurprisingly, Seattle Surge took a 1-0 lead in this series. A 250-136 Embassy Hardpoint win was led by a great performance from Pred as usual, as he put up a massive 31 kills and a 1.55 K/D to kick off this series.

Unsurprisingly, Seattle Surge continue to suffer in Search and Destroy as Boston Breach tied the series 1-1 with a 6-2 Embassy Search and Destroy. Nero topped the leaderboard here with a massive 10 kills, as he picked up two crucial pieces and important kills to close out the map. Boston Breach dominated the next Fortress Control with a quick 3-0 victory, where Methodz topped the leaderboard with his 1.73 K/D. The series was closed out with a 250-239 Fortress Hardpoint victory for Boston Breach in map four, however, it was an unfortunate streak from Seattle Surge that allowed Boston Breach in to close out this map, a game error that Methodz called “unacceptable” in our post-match interview.

LA Thieves 3-0 Florida Mutineers

The LA Thieves came into this game with some fire, taking the map one Hotel Hardpoint 250-192. The Thieves did all the right things throughout this map, rotating to each point when needed and ensuring that they could break and hold every point needed to ensure a victory and a 1-0 lead in this series. The LA Thieves continued to look great in this series as they took a 2-0 lead through a 6-4 Fortress Search and Destroy victory. This was an excellent win as the Florida Mutineers have been one of the best Search and Destroy teams in the league so far this season, while the Thieves have suffered recently. This change in SnD gameplay could make a big difference, and be just what LAT needs to make the top four.

This series was over in a quick 3-0 with an easy 3-0 Hotel Control victory to close out the series. Drazah was unbelievable in this final map of the series, putting up 22 kills and a 2.44 K/D. However, it was Octane who topped the leaderboard over the entire series as he ended the match with a 1.52 overall K/D.

Los Angeles Guerrillas 3-2 Las Vegas Legion

The Los Angeles Guerrillas have looked great with their new roster. However, they suffered a 3-1 defeat yesterday, which sent them into the lower bracket. In map one of this elimination series, LAG came out firing, with a massive 42 kills and 1.68 K/D from Arcitys in this Fortress Hardpoint that saw them take a 250-232 victory and a 1-0 lead in this series. Las Vegas Legion leveled the series with a 6-4 Mercado Search and Destroy win, a map and mode combo they have been one of the best in the game at all season. Clayster dominated the map with a massive 13 kills and a 3.25 K/D in this map two as Vegas tied the series at 1-1.

The Los Angeles Guerrillas came back in the map three El Asilo Control to take a 3-2 victory after being down 0-2 in the map. Assault was the main slayer here, as he put up 34 kills and a 2.00 K/D, putting the Guerrillas 2-1 up in this series. However, Las Vegas Legion came back strong to tie the series 2-2 and force a game five with a 250-204 Hotel Hardpoint. Clayster dropped a big 30 kills in this map as Vegas forced us to a game five in this series.

This series went all the way to a map five, but it was the Los Angeles Guerrillas who came out on top with a 6-2 El Asilo victory to take the series. Exceed dominated the final map of this series with a 9/2 performance that puts LAG firmly in the race for a lower bracket run.

LA Thieves 3-0 New York Subliners

This series provided one of the closest maps of the Major so far as the LA Thieves took a 1-0 lead in the series with a 250-246 Hotel Hardpoint. While the Thieves took the map victory, it was the New York Subliners who outslayed by 20 kills, and should have closed out this map with ease. Map two of this series also went the way of the LA Thieves as a 6-4 El Asilo Search and Destroy win saw them take a 2-0 series lead and go to series point. Drazah was the main slayer here, putting up 11 kills and a 2.20 K/D in this map two.

The LA Thieves closed out this series with a 3-0, putting their map record today at a clean 6-0. This series record does not tell the story of the matches, however, as every single map was down to the wire and the Subliners will be disappointed with this result.
