Are OpTic Texas the Best Team in the Call of Duty League?

OpTic Texas performed well in the Pro-Am, but are they the best?

The Call of Duty League has seen multiple different teams look like the best so far this season, and appear to top the Power Rankings. From Seattle Surge, to Atlanta FaZe and even the London Royal Ravens, the top spot in the CDL has been highly contested this season.

Major 1 was a great start to the season for OpTic Texas. After a 0-2 start to the qualifiers, they went on to win three matches in a row and qualify for the Major in 4th seed. Their first match was against Seattle Surge, one of the top teams in the game and winner of the Kickoff Classic. However, OpTic breezed past them easily with a 3-0 win. Next, OpTic defeated both Atlanta FaZe and the London Royal Ravens, before dominating the Grand Final with a 5-2 victory.

Dashy finished the Major as MVP, putting up a 1.31 Overall K/D.

OpTic Texas @ Major 2

OpTic started the Major 2 Qualifiers as they finished the Major 1 Grand Finals, dominant. The qualifiers were easy for the Greenwall as they went 5-0, only dropping three maps in the whole three weeks of Qualifying matches.

At the Major, it was a different story for OpTic Texas. Seattle Surge came out for revenge, defeating OpTic 3-0 in round one of the Major, sending them to the losers bracket. Hosts Minnesota ROKKR were sent home by OpTic in a 3-1 defeat before the Greenwall pushed their team through a tough five map series against LA Thieves. However, OpTic’s Major run was cut short by the Florida Mutineers, seeing them place 5/6th.

OpTic’s Latest Success

While OpTic Texas placed 5/6th at Major 2, they remained second in many fans’ Power Rankings, just behind Atlanta FaZe who reached back-to-back Grand Finals. The Pro-Am created challenges for OpTic, as In-Game Leader Inder “iLLeY” Dhaliwal suffered a thumb injury. While he pushed through the first game, he was eventually sent to the bench, seeing Jordon “General” General sub in.

The Mutineers defeated OpTic 3-0 in General’s first game with the squad, seeing much of the community completely write them off. However, after qualifying for the Single Elim Bracket, OpTic excelled. Atlanta FaZe were their first opponents, and OpTic came out on top with a 3-2 win. This victory included two Search and Destroy wins which both looked great, and OpTic looked back to their best.

Where does OpTic sit now?

OpTic currently has the fourth-best Hardpoint win rate in the League at 62.07%, the fifth-best Search and Destroy at 56.00%, and an 89.47% Control win rate – the best in the League (all stats excl. Kickoff Classic). Following their miracle run at the Pro-Am, many fans place OpTic as the best team in the League. This is mainly due to superstar Anthony “Shotzzy” Cuevas-Castro single-handedly winning maps for the team at times, and dominating the map.

The Call of Duty League returns this Friday for Major 3 Qualifiers, where we’ll truly see how good OpTic are.
