Five days after the start of The Lima Major 2023, the Group Stage finally came to an end. We saw countless epic matches over the course of 5 days. Now that the dust has settled, we already know the names of the 4 teams that will advance to the Upper Bracket, the 2 that will go to the LB, and the 3 that will be eliminated.
Group A was very interesting because it features some of the best Dota 2 teams in the world. Although some teams didn’t meet the expectations, generally speaking, we weren’t surprised by the results in the Group.
Speaking of the devil, let’s look at what happened in each match of The Lima Major 2023 and see the final standings.
EG defeated TSM
The first series of the day was between EG and TSM. The two American teams had to go head to head in an extremely important battle for both. EG had to win to secure a top 4 finish, whereas TSM needed the victory to save themselves from elimination. Hence, both gave everything they got.
The bad news for TSM was that the squad didn’t have enough firepower to bring down its mighty opponent. The first match between the two was just 29 minutes, during which EG had no problems winning the match. Despite having QoP and Morphling in its roster, TSM had no way of dealing with their opponents’ hyper-aggressive draft and losing the match.
Following the defeat, TSM was one game away from elimination, so it decided to get some of their signature heroes like TB and Riki. Although this definitely allowed the NA powerhouse to play better than before, it wasn’t enough to bring down the South American team. This victory allowed EG to secure a top 4 finish and a slot for the Upper Bracket.
Execration lost against Team Spirit

After its dominant performance in the Southeast Asian DPC Division I, we expected Execration to be among the best at The Lima Major Group A. However, the team secured tons of draws and lost its final series against Team Spirit. Consequently, the SEA squad finished second last and was eliminated from the event.
The first map between these 2 teams was more interesting to watch because it could go either way. Although Execration’s draft looked good on paper, the team wasn’t powerful enough to make the most of it and lost the game.
After losing the first map, Team Spirit looked way more motivated for the second game of the series. The team picked their favorite Lina and Ember combo and ripped through their opponents in just 28 minutes. The victory was enough to secure them a top 4 finish.
Talon eliminated EHOME from the event

Unlike its SEA counterpart, Talon Esports continues to impress its fans because the squad secures a top 4 finish. It definitely wasn’t a walk in the park for it, but 23savage and the rest ripped through EHOME in their last series of Group A and eliminated the Chinese from the competition.
Speaking of eliminations, Talon was on another level in both matches and definitely deserved to be among the best in Group A. The first game lasted just 19 minutes, so it didn’t surprise the team dominated in the laning stage and used its momentum to win.
The second game of the series was as easy as the first one for Talon Esports because the latter only needed 26 minutes to win. Their Enigma and TA combo succeeded yet again and carried the team to victory.
Gaimin Gladiators defeated PSG.LGD and finished first in Group A

The last series of The Lima Major 2023 Group A was also extremely important for both of these teams. They had almost the same results, so winning this match would put one in the top 4, whereas the other would advance to the Lower Bracket.
Even though we expected the match to end in a draw, the Western European powerhouse seemed more motivated to win and defeat its opponents. What surprised us was that the game wasn’t even close because GG was just better in both maps.
In the first one, the WEU squad used some of their most comfortable heroes in the face of Rubick and Treant. Consequently, Quinn and co. needed just 25 minutes to win the match.
After losing the first game, PSG.LGD had to win the second match to save itself from going out of Top 4. The team seemed prepared for this moment because it surprised everything by picking Anti-Mage and Ember Spirit in the same draft.
Although GG had to play against a hero they hadn’t seen in a while, this didn’t stop the team from dominating. On the contrary, it ripped through the Chinese powerhouse and eventually won the match.
Conclusion
Now that the matches in Group A of The Lima Major 2023 are over, we know the names of all teams that will advance to the Playoffs. Of course, we also know which teams are eliminated from the event. We’ve listed all teams from first to last below.
- Gamin Gladiators
- Team Spirit
- Evil Geniuses
- Talon Esports
- PSG.LGD
- Tundra Esports
- TSM
- Execration
- EHOME
To sum up, GG, TS, EG, and Talon advance to the Upper Bracket, whereas PSG.LGD and Tundra will have to play in the LB. Sadly, TSM, EHOME and Execration couldn’t live up to the expectations, and the teams were eliminated from the competition.
