12.17

Stopwatch Nerfed, Maokai & Hecarim Adjustments

[ad_1]

LoL patch 12.17 is coming in hot with long-awaited Stopwatch nerfs and a number of other changes.

As Riot recently announced, patch 12.18 will be the official patch Worlds 2022 will be played on, so this is the last patch before what is supposed to be the meta-defining patch. The SR team had also said the patches before 12.18 would be on the lighter side, but 12.17 is one of the bigger patches we’ve got ever since the Durability Update.

Is Stopwatch finally dead in 12.17?

Normally, changes to champions would highlight most patches, but this time around the main event has to be the Stopwatch nerfs. For the last couple of years, the community sentiment around this item has been on a downhill, especially its usage in pro play where fans are used to seeing five or six people going into stasis in a single fight.

While the 100 gold nerf to the item will not kill it or make it useless, it will be felt by most champions in the game. Zhonya’s and Guardian Angel users got some compensation buffs for it, but if players looking to buy a Stopwatch to use it and drop it will be more impacted by delaying their power spikes.

The other biggest changes are Maokai and Hecarim adjustments. Hecarim got some of his numbers changed so that he is now more incentivized to opt into a bruiser build, instead of going full tank. His Q damage having a bigger ramp up and his W now giving him resistances, he will be a lot more of a reliable damage source in team fights.

On the other hand, Maokai got more of a change to his play style. Fans have been complaining about Maokai’s absence from the top lane and his shift into the support role, due to the %Max HP damage in his E. With this damage shifted to his Q, and with much-needed missile speed buffs to his Ultimate, there is a good chance Maokai can go back to his home at the top side. Not to mention the buffs to his jungle clear, possibilities are endless!

Aside from these, there aren’t other big changes in the patch. 12.17 will see some more nerfs to Sivir who has been dominating in low and high elos, on top of pro play. There is also a slight nerf to Taric, who’s been popping up in the jungle in the recent weeks. However, the nerf hammer is not big enough if you are looking to try it for yourself. Some buffs to watch out for are Rell, who got some dismounted movespeed buffs and Camille, who hasn’t been in the meta recently after being probably the best top laner for nearly a year.
