Riot And Verizon Are Partners Of Wild Rift Esports In North America

[ad_1]

In one of the most significant moves for the standalone modified League of Legends game Wild Rift, gaming behemoth Riot have joined forces with Verizon to become the founding partners of League of Legends Wild Rift in the North American region.

With Verizon already having established a very strong presence in the North American mobile market, the deal is a very sensible one for both companies as they seek to popularise and enhance the MOBA-based mobile offshoot of the popular PC game League of Legends.

What Is Wild Rift?

The original League of Legends game is still one of the most popular, if not THE most popular esports game in the world today, but the original game was designed solely for play on PCs.

That did not stop the game becoming one of the most played titles all over the world and one of the most popular esports ever created. Not only that, League of Legends tournaments also generate huge interest in other areas such as esports betting, content creation, streaming and more.

However, Riot Games soon realised that with mobile gaming increasing markedly in popularity, they needed a title that would be portable to mobile devices, but which retained the same appeal and playability of the original League of Legends game.

The result of that was League of Legends: Wild Rift, the mobile-compatible version of the game that allows people to compete in 5×5 MOBA action from their handheld devices.

Released in October 2020, the game has become one of the most popularly played mobile games of recent times and now, Riot Games and Verizon are set to enhance that still further.

Details Of The Partnership

As part of the deal, Verizon will be the exclusive 5G Network and wireless service provider of the forthcoming Wild Rift North American Series; the first season of a brand new esports tournament designed for the title.

In addition, Verizon will work with Riot Games to produce a number of what they have termed “immersive fan experiences” for the event, and Verizon will also be a key presence at a number of Wild Rift events that have been planned for 2022.

When assessing elite partners for launch, it was clear that Verizon’s category recognition for speed, scale, reliability and technology sophistication across mobile seamlessly align with the expectations of the Wild Rift community,” stated Matt Archambault, the Head of Esports Partnerships and Business Development for Riot Games in North America and Oceania.

Verizon will also be allowed to use Wild Rift across its marketing and social media promotions and they will be allowed to use a Founding Partner logo.

The deal was not unexpected given that Riot Games and Verizon have teamed up successfully before for a number of VALORANT and League of Legends tournaments in recent years, including the esteemed Mid Season Invitational.

With Coca Cola already named as another founding partner, the future for Wild Rift Esports in North America looks hugely exciting and with the first season on the way you can expect lots of esports action, plus some exciting Wild Rift betting to be available in the expanding North American esports betting market too.
