With the Group Stage settled, it’s time to see who will face off in the first round of Knockouts.
After an electrifying Group Stage, the LoL World Championship is finally at the Knockout Stage. Here, the eight remaining teams will battle it out in best-of-fives to make it to the Grand Finals. With teams like DAMWON KIA and T1 looking terrifying, second-seeded teams were hoping to dodge them and not get the toughest matchups first. The matchups were chosen randomly, though no teams could be paired up with another team that they played in the Group Stage with. All that said, here’s how it all worked out!
From the get-go, it’s clear the bottom side of the bracket is scarier. EU fans might not feel too great with how the draw worked, as the MAD Lions will be facing off against reigning World Champions DAMWON KIA. If MAD Lions can show the form they showed in the LEC Finals, however, who knows what could happen? Meanwhile, NA fans should be happy, as Gen.G is probably the easiest team to play against first in their position. Other than that, T1 vs HLE and RNG vs EDG will be battles between teams from the same region, meaning the stakes are high as ever.
The first Quarterfinal match will take place on Friday, October 22 at 8 AM EST. The games continue through Saturday, Sunday and Monday too, so there’s plenty of action to watch!
