2023 LCS Spring Split Week 1 Day 2 Recap: CLG Faithful Rewarded With Comeback

The reigning LCS champions C9 start the Spring Split with a 2-0 week.

LCS Spring Split’s opening week come to a strong conclusion. The new season of the LCS had a much different look with a lot of new content from both the league and organizations centered around the players. We’ve also had multiple guests make appearances on the broadcast including Gabriël “Bwipo” Rau and the popular streamer QTCinderella.

Unfortunately, there were some visa issues for a few teams during the first week. Eyla for FlyQuest, IgNar for Dignitas and Gori for Golden Guardians didn’t start for Week 1, and they were replaced by Winsome, Biofrost and Young, respectively.

Another big piece of news was the 2023 LCS Spring Finals tickets going out on sale. The Spring Finals will be held in Raleigh, North Carolina, more information is available on the LCS announcement tweet.

CLG vs EG

EG had a great early game second day in a row. Inspired on Elise found a massive bot lane dive and gave FBI two kills. CLG answered with a Herald, but EG still put themselves nearly 2k gold ahead in the early game. Jojopyun also looked much better after his happy game yesterday and was able to influence the other lanes along with his jungler. CLG tried to bring themselves back into the game by contesting the objectives and managed to delay the Dragon Soul time and time again and even secured multiple Barons after starting to push EG back in teamfights with their scaling comp.

It seemed like EG’s only option was Jojo’s side laning, but after a certain minute even that looked impossible as always kept moving as a five-man unit looking for 5v5s. They found the fight they were looking for in the mid lane just before the 45-minute mark and cleanly aced EG for a great comeback victory.

  • Teams: CLG 1 – 0 EG
  • Time: 44:05
  • Kills: 11 – 13
  • Turrets: 8 – 6
  • Gold: 80.2k – 75.2k
  • Dragons: 3 – 3
  • Barons: 2 – 1

GG vs C9

Both teams started the game with a focus on the mid lane where Young found a massive early cs lead over Diplex. It could’ve been troublesome for C9, but they pulled it back with a 1v2 first blood from Fudge and great objective control from Blaber. The relatively close early game lead of C9 exploded in a flash after a couple of skirmishes. Only one of the fights looked winnable for GG, and that was until Fudge got a quadra kill. One of these kills was also a big milestone for the C9 top laner as he passed 500 kills in the LCS. After that, it was just sitting and waiting for C9 to end the game, which didn’t last too long.

  • Teams: GG 0 – 1 C9
  • Time: 25:28
  • Kills: 5 – 24
  • Turrets: 2 – 11
  • Gold: 41.2k – 56.2k
  • Dragons: 1 – 3
  • Barons: 0 – 1

TL vs TSM

We finally got to sneak a peek at the promised potential of the TL’s rookie bot laner as Yeon and CoreJJ kept killing the enemy duo twice in the 2v2. At the same time, Summit was turning back the time to last Spring as he dominated the laning phase with his Gnar. TSM at the least were able to get a couple of early drakes to give themselves a hope for the late game. It also helped Summit kept dying in the side lane once the mid game started, and the gold over to the TSM kept them in the game.

Once teams started grouping, TSM played the fights great and managed to win most of them even while behind 4k gold, going as far as securing the Infernal Soul and multiple Barons. With their Azir and Ornn fully scaled, TSM was in a comfortable position and they used their second Baron to push for the TL base. All it took in the base was one more clear engage and TSM surprised everyone with a 2-0 week.

  • Teams: TL 0 – 1 TSM
  • Time: 40:01
  • Kills: 15 – 19
  • Turrets: 5 – 9
  • Gold: 68.4k – 72.6k
  • Dragons: 2 – 4
  • Barons: 0 – 2
