The announcement from TSM came out following the discussions between Bjergsen and the organization. The goal of the negotiation was to retain their former franchise player (and part-owner).
As a consequence, Bjergsen will also have to sell his ownership equity within the team, when he will have the chance to sign new contracts on Nov. 15, the opening day of the transfer window.
Bjergsen’s career at TSM
Looking back at Bjergsen’s past, the Danish mid laner was considered one of the best western players throughout his career. His four MVPs and six LCS Championships established him as one of the most decorated players in North America and in LoL esports.
While the domestic results were great, the international performances never met the expectations. In all the Worlds editions Bjergsen and TSM participated in, only once did they come out out of groups, back in 2014. In all the others, they were eliminated, most of the time with negative records.
At the end of Worlds 2020, Bjergsen declared his will of stepping down from the starting mid-lane position. To fill the vacant spot, TSM replaced Bjergsen with PowerofEvil.
Despite leaving competitive as a player, Bjergsen stayed in the team as the Head Coach of the team. Under his supervision, TSM had a decent start in Spring, finishing in third place during the 2021 LCS playoffs. However, TSM still wasn’t able to make it Worlds, as the organization came fourth in the Summer Split and missed out on the international tournament for the third time in TSM’s history.
Where will Bjergsen go?
As we previously mentioned, Bjergsen must wait until the start of the new transfer window to announce his new team. The mid laner is considering offers from both Europe and North America, with the latter a more plausible option. This is because most top teams in the LEC have already secured their players, so Bjergsen’s choices are very limited. Not only that, but Luka “Perkz” Perković also declared his intention of returning to EU, according to DotEsports.
With the Danish player’s goal return to the Worlds stage, it will unlikely to see him join a bottom-tier LEC team. For that reason, according to an Upcomer report, the 25-year-old is in talks to transfer to Team Liquid. TL is considering moving Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen to the AD carry role, with Bjergsen stepping in to take the mid-lane position. While nothing has been confirmed yet, it looks like we’re going to have an explosive off-season…
