LCS: Team Liquid vs Evil Geniuses
On April 23 these teams will battle for a spot in the grand finals, where the 100 Thieves are waiting patiently for their opponents. The semifinals will be played out at the NRG Stadium in Houston Texas. After more than 2 years of COVID restrictions, the LCS semi and grand finals will finally be back with a live audience.
These two teams already met each other earlier in the tournament during the first round of the playoffs and Team Liquid was the team that came out on top, but it was one of the closest series we’ve had so far in the 2022 Spring Playoffs. Team Liquid was heading into the series as the strongest LCS team by far, so it was very unexpected to have such a back-and-forth series against Evil Geniuses, the team that wasn’t doing so great during the regular split. But EG has been steadily improving as time passed and after dropping down to the losers’ bracket, we saw Evil Geniuses defeat FlyQuest and Cloud9 with ease.
Team Liquid now has a huge challenge in front of them, to not succumb to Evil Geniuses’ momentum. We’ve seen time and time again how many teams that aren’t necessarily the favorite to win, come into a match with a huge win streak and simply roll over the enemy team. We recently saw this at the 2022 LEC Spring Playoffs, where G2 didn’t come in as the absolute favorite team to win it all, but after a couple of series, they had enough momentum to stomp the opposition. It’s going to be very important for Team Liquid to remain level-headed and play the way they did against EG for the first time.
VCS: Saigon Buffalo vs Team Secret
Saigon Buffalo comes in as the favorite team because of the supremacy they had over Team Secret during the 2022 VCS Spring regular season, but that might be a bit deceiving. On April 22 the Vietnamese teams will have to fight for a spot in the grand finals where they’ll play against GAM Esports. This SGB vs TS series is going to be more exciting than people expect, the Saigon Buffalos had a stronger start of the split, but Team Secret’s performance has been on a rise.
In the last week of the split, we saw Saigon Buffalos drop their series against one of the worst teams in the league, Burst the Sky Esports, and it didn’t look good at all for them. Saigon Buffalos have been experimenting with many of their subs throughout the split and even if the team has a solid main roster, it’s still a bit concerning that they’ve been dropping games that they clearly shouldn’t have.
Team Secret on the other hand, unlike almost all of the other teams in the VCS, have stuck to their core 5 players and this is one of the main reasons why we’ve seen them improve so consistently this split. Their mid laner Artifact has been playing really well and he is considered the 2nd best mid laner in the entire league. This series is going to be a fight between Saigon Buffalo’s raw individual power vs Team Secret’s ability to work as a unit, making it one of the most exciting matches we’ll have in the 2022 VCS spring split.
