What’s New In Patch v18.20? Combat AR vs. SMG, Fortnitemares 2021 Update & More

Find out what’s new in Fortnite Battle Royale patch v18.20.

Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 8 is well underway after its initial release back in early September. Cubes are the central storyline this season, and the map has changed enough for players to notice. As usual, Epic Games never stops following the launch of a new season. Part of Fortnite’s allure lies within its frequent updates, which add new features, weapons and mechanics into the game.

Last time out in patch v18.10, Epic unveiled Chili Chug Splashes as a new form of mobility and healing. The latest update — v18.20 — arrived early this morning after a brief downtime.

ESTNN has all the information to catch you up on everything new in patch v18.20, so let’s see what Epic has to offer!

Combat Assault Rifle & Submachine Gun

A new round of voting has begun in Chapter 2 Season 8. Fans used their gold the last time around to bring back the Shockwave Launcher over the Rift-To-Go. Now, players will have to vote for a new weapon to enter Fortnite. The choices are a Combat Assault Rifle and Combat SMG. Both are entirely new weapons in Fortnite with immense recoil, but only one can win.

Here are each weapon’s stats per iFireMonkey:

Fortnitemares 2021 Update

Not much has changed since Fortnitemares 2021 began outside of some new skins. Update v18.20 added unlockable Fortnitemares cosmetic items to the game files. While these are not available to acquire today, we can expect them soon. In terms of in-game changes related to Fortnitemares, zombie jump scares are back with a 50% spawn rate.

Also, the complete list of leaked cosmetics includes a ton of new Fortnitemares skins, including Golden Skull Trooper, Shadow Midas and more.

Smart Build Mode

A recently leaked mechanic named “Smart Builds” had received some updated imagery in the game files. We don’t know what it is or how useful it will be to players. However, it seems Epic is slowly inching toward releasing it in-game.

Yearly Refund Token

According to a separate blog post, Epic plans to start refreshing Return Request after a year. That means, if you use a Refund Token, you’ll get it back 365 days later. Check out the link above for more information!
