Fortnite Patch v18.21 - Fortnitemares: Wrath Of The Cube Queen, New Cube POI, Ghostbusters, Ariana Grande & More

Learn everything you need to know about Fortnitemares 2021: Wrath of the Cube Queen.

Fortnite’s latest update is here, and it’s perhaps the most anticipated of Chapter 2 – Season 8. The game has shown glimpses of its annual Fortnitemares celebration, but nothing like we saw last year. Well, patch v18.21 changed that, and we have officially entered into spooky season. What’s more, the long-rumored Cube Town point of interest (POI) — located in the middle of the Island — became a reality after a short downtime.

Today, ESTNN looks at everything Fortnite Season 8 patch v18.21 has to offer and some noteworthy leaks that came through the pipeline. Join us as we break down all the critical details.

The Covergence (Cube Town POI)

Cubes of all shapes, colors and sizes converged on what was recently called “The Aftermath.” The Fortnite island’s middle area has been invaded by the cubes, creating The Convergence POI. This new area features towering cube Cube structures and the almighty Cube Queen floating overhead.

Sideways Scythe

The Sideways Scythe is Fortnite’s newest weapon. It functions like the Infinity Blade from way back in Chapter 1–albeit not as powerful. It grants quicker movement, a jumping attack and several quick swinging motions. Sideways Scythes only spawn in Sideways Chests.

Here are the statistics per HYPEX:

Caretakers

Caretakers are new boss characters that spawn randomly around the map. These towering zombies have a lot of health but reward players with insane loot upon elimination. It appears the Sideways Scythe is not very effective, but Caretakers are worth taking out, considering the loot that drops.

Fortnitemares Update

A variety of Halloween-themed Fortnite items from Fortnitemares, including a scythe, witch's brooms and pumpkin items appear on a dark swirl background.

The time has arrived for Epic Games to give Fortnite a spooky overhaul that most fans should recognize. Witch Brooms, the Halloween Bus and more are now available in-game until November 9 at 9 AM ET. According to Epic’s blog post, the Sideways Scythe and Caretakers will remain, and The Convergence will “evolve.”

Here is a list of the Fortnitemares-specific items and gameplay elements:

  • Witch Brooms
  • Halloween Bus
  • Jump scares
  • Candy Buckets
  • Pumpkin Launcher

Here are the free rewards for completing Fortnitemares challenges:

The free Fortnitemares rewards, the Raven's Curse Spray, Midnight Showdown Loading Screen and Wrathful Breakout Contrail, appear on a dark swirly background.

  • Raven’s Curse Spray
  • Midnight Showdown Loading Screen
  • Wrathful Breakout Contrail.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife Collaboration

The iconic Ghostbusters symbol appears on a dark background for Fortnitemares.

This edition of Fortnitemares brings another Ghostbusters collaboration. Last year, Epic released a slew of Ghostbusters skins. Now, players can complete challenges to unlock a Ghostbusters back bling in partnership with the series’ latest installment — Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

“With Containment Specialist’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife Punchard, deploy Seismographs, take out mini-Pufts, and more to unlock the No Ghost Back Bling — inspired by the upcoming Ghostbusters: Afterlife film.”

Another Ariana Grande Collaboration

In an unexpected turn, Ariana Grande has returned to Fortnite with new styles. Epic plans to release the cosmetics above on the Item Shop at some point soon. The new variants feature Ariana Grande’s character in a space suit, with various selectable styles and accessories.

“Ariana Grande has returned to the Island, but now in new gear ready to take down monsters. ‘Spacefarer Ariana Grande,’ the galaxy’s greatest monster hunter, is inviting you to join her hunt. Complete her Monster Hunter Questline to unlock the new All-Weather Extractor Pickaxe (Dark Style)!”

Bug Fixes

Here is the lone bug fix from patch v18.21:

  • Fixed an issue that caused us to disable Shotguns in Team Rumble. Shotguns are now re-enabled in the mode.

That covers everything you need to know about the latest Fortnitemares: Wrath of the Cube Queen update. The event concludes on November 2, so be sure to experience the Halloween event while it’s still available in-game!
