Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 Vaults Guide

This is where you can find all four Chapter 4 Season 2 vaults and how to get inside one every game.

Fortnite’s latest season has a new map with a big new Japanese biome. But what about Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 vaults? Always a highlight of the map, they’re definitely worth looking through. There are actually some new vaults on the map this season! It hasn’t been the best-advertised feature, but plenty of players have already figured out how to get inside of the brand-new Fortnite vaults.

The new Vaults this season are your gateway to a much better performance this season. They hold the key to one-shot kills, thanks to the Mythic level Pump shotgun. This Mythic is only located inside these new vaults. What’s more though, there are Heisted chests, rare chests, loads of gold, Mythic Slurp juice, and you’ll get a Mythic AR just for taking out the boss.

While all that rare loot is yours if you get into the vault, they’re working a bit differently. The boss characters aren’t around for the entire game anymore. You might be landing at one of the new Vault locations and not even realise you’re missing out. We’ll run you through how the new Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 vaults work, what’s inside, how to get in, and strategies to secure the best loot in every game.

What are the new Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 Vaults?

The Chapter 4 Season 2 vaults are a new feature, but they’re an update on an old one. Vaults are nothing new, but these specific vaults are less a new addition and more a restoration. They’re actually very close to the Most Wanted update’s vaults! There have been some key changes though.

These are vaults that you get in for taking down a boss character in three locations. Inside are many chests, mythic weapons, stacks of gold, ammo, slurp, and more. There have been some big changes from Chapter 4 Season 1’s Vaults though.

Where are the Chapter 4 Season 2 Vaults?

The Most Wanted update featured three different vaults in total, but there are four Chapter 4 Season 2 vaults! They aren’t in the same place though thanks to some map changes. Thankfully each of the three you access early in games is in one of the best landing spots in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2. These are the locations of the three main new vaults.

  • Shattered Slabs
  • Brutal Bastion
  • Mega City

The vaults are slightly hidden from view with an arrow pointing towards them once you grab the key. You can find the one in Shattered Slabs at the back of the mine area, the cut area cavern inside of the rocks. The one in Brutal Bastion is at the back of the POI on the ground floor.

The final vault (outside of one with a moving location we’ll get to later) is in Mega City. This one is located on the river bank, in an area that’s cut into the city below the main buildings. It’s probably the best-hidden vault since it can be tricky to track down in the sprawling city.

How Do You Get into the Chapter 4 Season 2 Vaults?

The Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 vaults are a bit different to what we’ve seen in the past. They work similarly to old ones, but the timing is going to throw off long-time players. Since Chapter 2 we’ve had a mechanic where killing a boss character will have them drop a vault key which you can redeem to get inside at the same POI. While that’s still the case, the bosses aren’t unique characters who inhabit a POI anymore.

The bosses are now the same in all three locations. They also don’t appear at the beginning of the game. Instead, they rift in part way through. After the first countdown has ended, you’ll soon start to hear and see an indicator for a rift opening. Then the boss character along with two Henchmen will rift into the POI.

The exact spot that they enter will vary a little bit depending on where players are. They don’t seem to like to rift on top of people. You can hear them coming in from the entire POI though, so once you get the indicator head over and get ready for a fight.

Taking Down the Bosses

To get inside the Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 vaults you’ll need to take down a boss character. These guys might be our easiest bosses to date though. For a start, they’re friendly. Until you attack them, they won’t hurt you. They’re happy just to wander around like the other NPCs.

Beyond that, you have quite a while to get kitted up and ensure you’re not going to get third partied. By the time they rift in, you can likely be alone in the POI and safe from others attacking you. Once you do take them on, you can see their exact location before they enter the game. Now we have one-shot snipers and heavy damage pumps, you can basically line your reticule up before they even enter, hit fire, and then just have some brief mopping up of henchmen to sort out before you’ve taken them out!

Once you defeat the Boss, they’ll drop meds, a Mythic Havok Suppressed AR and a vault keycard to open one of the locations in the map. Even if the storm is coming in at this point, it’s still maybe worth grabbing the meds and heading to the vault. There’s enough heals to keep you alive waiting in there.

Getting the Chapter 4 Season 2 Vaults Open

At this stage, you should be ready to head over to the vault, which won’t take long since the key gives you directions. Once there, it’s simple to get it open. All you need to do is redeem the keycard on the entry panel to open up the door and get ready to head in.

What’s Inside the Chapter 4 Season 2 Vaults?

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 Vaults

This is the main reason you’ll be running through all the earlier steps, the high-level loot you’re going to find inside. While these vaults are less full than they were in Most Wanted, there are still some amazing prizes inside.

The first thing to grab is the Mythic Shotgun. These are a new Mythic of which there are four in the game at the moment. These are a really strong weapon that will one-shot kill in any game mode if you’re accurate enough. Obviously, this is motivation enough to get inside the vaults. You’re going to struggle in the top ten without one of these if the sweatiest Fortnite skins shows up holding these guns.

Alongside that other Mythic, there’s a number of chests. You’ll find normal chests along with the Heisted chests that drop high-level weapons and exotic guns. On top of that, there is ammo, slurp barrels, and even gold. Most of the loot is sat on top of large piles of gold bars. These aren’t just decorative either. You can harvest them to collect a decent amount of gold from inside the vaults. This might take a while if there are still players in the POI. However, if you have the time, it’s a great way to boost your gold balance this season.

The Fourth Vault – Floating Isle

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 Vaults

That’s how the main Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 vaults work, but there is one more. This is a completely different type of vault though! For a start, it’s not in a fixed location.

This vault is located in the floating Isle POI. It rifts into a random spot at a different time in every game. You’ll have to track it down after the fourth storm circle to get inside, then come up on either a zipline or through a vault.

Once on top of the POI, you’ll be able to get the Overclocked Pulse Rifle just by claiming the POI through the flagpole. After that though, there’s another Chapter 4 Season 2 vault waiting for you.

Inside the house that makes up the main bit of the POI is a blown-out floor. Head through it and you’ll find a mine shaft leading downwards. If you can go all the way down through it, at the bottom is yet another vault. This one has a few differences though.

How to Open the Vault and What’s Inside?

For a start, you don’t need a keycard to open it. Instead, you just need to get two keys for holo-chests. This means it uses the Chapter 3 method for unlocking, so we have a bit of everything represented in the Chapter 4 Season 2 vaults! On top of that the contents are a bit different You’ll still find most of the same stuff, just in different quantities compared to the other vaults.

This fourth vault is more one of circumstance than something you can plan your game around. Unlike the others we’ve covered already, you can’t really drop in banking on getting access to it. This means you’ve got to play the last vault by ear. If you’re close to the floating isle, then it is definitely worth heading up there. You may end up with some harder fights though. Between the vault and the mythic Pulse Rifle there’s good reason for even players with high-level weapons to attempt to eliminate you and take it for themselves.

Those are all of the Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 vaults so far. Epic’s gone for a mix of things with this batch. We’ve got the boss-style vaults but also those you can hop into during the late game for a last-minute boost. These are going to be a great addition to the season and it’s worth planning your games around.
