FNCS Finalist Wrongfully Banned In Second Straight Season Finals

Chaos ensued during the European FNCS Season 8 Finals.

The Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) in Chapter 2 – Season 8 drew to a close late Sunday night for European players, but it took much longer than anticipated. A tournament that should have ended much earlier did not. Polish players Kami, Setty and teeq were well on their way to claiming the FNCS title before an accidental ban affected one of the 100 players involved, and queue issues affected the same player shortly after.

What should have been a victory lap for the Polish trio became something different, echoing a similar scenario in the FNCS Season 7 Finals. The situation forced Epic Games to rectify the wrongful ban and add more than one hour to the European Season 8 Finals.

Tripperrn Suffers Second Wrongful Ban

Professional Fortnite player Tripperrnn found himself in a position he is all too familiar with to round out the Season 8 Finals. He received an account ban heading into the final match of the FNCS. Epic Games rectified the wrongful discipline and rightfully nullified the results of the following games in the interest of fairness. History repeated itself once again in Season 8, as Tripperrnn received another in-game 24-hour ban for “exploiting.”

Last season, the same occurred as Tripperrnn and 100 Thieves player MrSavage suffered bans during the Season 7 Finals. A closer look revealed that several players reported the two FNCS Finalists and Fortnite’s in-game system took action. Tripperrnn took to Twitter after his most recent ban, showing a screenshot of his in-game notification. Epic took action, reinstating Trippernn’s account and erased the results of game 12.

Second Game 12 Restart in the Season 8 Finals

It seemed Trippernn and the other 99 players were in the clear, but that was not the case. The unbanned player suffered another issue that disallowed him from queuing into match 12. Epic Games again nullified the results of game 12 and had to restart for the third time.

The official broadcast announced that the same trio that could not make it into match number 12 initially had the same result during the restart. Fortnite’s verified competitive Twitter account revealed the second match reset scheduled for 5:40 PM ET. Eventually, the 33 finalists completed the 12-game marathon but not without controversy.

Consistent Wrongful Bans in Back to Back Seasons

The last time Tripperrnn suffered a wrongful ban, players and viewers theorized that a Twitch streamer orchestrated it during an FNCS watch party. While that was never proven, Trippernn believes the cause this time around is the same. It’s challenging to say whether the accusations are accurate or not. Nevertheless, if it’s true, the mass report and ban potential is a significant issue.

The two restarts affected the leaderboard significantly despite Kami, Setty and teeq’s dominance. These minor leaderboard changes caused some, including last season’s runners-up — Stompy, nebs and pinq — to lose thousands in prize money, and others benefitted. Hopefully, Epic Games can address the issue and prevent such circumstances in the future, especially considering the implications.
