Riot Games have finally unveiled the new groups for Valorant Champions, along with the tournament format and the prize pool, giving us more insight into the final Valorant Champions Tour event of the year.
Sixteen of the best Valorant teams will be battling in a series of best-of-three matches for a massive $1.000.000 prize. The tournament will begin on December 1st, and is scheduled to conclude on December 12th. We expect some crazy plays and exciting twists and turns in this tournament, and we’re anxious to see which team will come out on top in the end.
The Biggest Valorant Prize Pool
Valorant Champions boasts the biggest prize pool in Valorant’s history. The $1 million prize is quite a jump from the previous Masters prize pools that were $700.000 in Berlin and $600.000 in Reykjavík.
The $1.000.000 prize pool will be divided among the sixteen teams in the following way:
- 1st place : $350.000
- 2nd place : $150.000
- 3rd-4th place : $90.000
- 5th-8th place : $40.000
- 9th-12th place : $20.000
- 13th-16th place : $20.000
The Valorant Champions Format
We finally have the format of the new tournament, and as we could expect, it’s divided into the group stage and the playoffs.
The group stage will feature four groups with four teams in each. The group stage will feature a double-elimination format and all matches will be played as best-of-three. At the end of the group stage, the top two teams will proceed into the playoffs, while the remaining two will be eliminated.
Playoffs will be played in a single-elimination bracket with best-of-three matches. The only exception will be the grand final match where the teams will play a best-of-five match.
The Groups
The group draws in Valorant Champions look pretty good right now. All the heavy hitters are spread out evenly.
Team Envy and Acend are the top dogs in Group A, and X10 CRIT and Keyd Stars will have to contend with them.
In Group B, we have Sentinels and Team Liquid, so it will be interesting to see what will happen when these two clash. KRÜ Esports and FURIA Esports seem to have drawn the short end of the stick here and will have a hard task ahead.
Group C is where we see Gambit Esports as the dominant team. Crazy Racoons are also here, and will have a chance for a rematch with Gambit Esports. Last time these two faced off was back during the Masters in Berlin. Gambit won on both occasions, so they’re entering this group with confidence.
And there’s Group D where we have Vision Strikers and Fnatic as the two favourites. However, Cloud9 Blue could pull off yet another surprise and survive Fnatic in their first match. The Thai squad, FULL SENSE, will have a rough time here as they’re facing against 3 really strong teams and their Valorant betting odds look slim at best.
This Could be the Best Valorant Tournament
Valorant Champions Tour is coming to an end and we’ll conclude the season with the final event – Valorant Champions. From what we’re seeing here, this could end up being the best Valorant tournament we’ve experienced so far.
For the first time ever, we don’t have a clear favourite. Up until Masters in Berlin, Sentinels were the clear choice. It was fun seeing them dominate both the NA region and all the LAN events, but right now we can’t say with certainty they’ll be able to to beat some of the other giants like Gambit, Vision Strikers, and even Team Liquid or Envy.
What we do know is that Valorant Champions will be one hell of a spectacle. Being the final event of the season, all the teams will put everything they got on the line. Even the underdogs are incredibly dangerous right now, and you can’t simply write them off. In less than two weeks, we’ll watch the action unfold and see what’ll happen. Until then, we’ll just have to be a bit more patient.
