With Challengers fast approaching, Riot decided to drop some new information about the tournament in February, while also revealing the slots for Valorant Champions Tour Masters and Champions in 2022.
This year’s VCT format introduced a few changes, mainly to Challengers and Masters, reducing the total number of tournaments in the season. This had a direct impact on the number of slots in Masters and Champions in the new season.
VCT Stage 1 Challengers Dates
Before we get into the slots, let’s first check out the new dates revealed by Riot Games yesterday. If you’ve been following us recently, you’d know that many VCT Challengers Qualifiers have already begun, and some have already finished.
But if you’re out of the loop on everything related to this year’s Valorant Champions Tour, don’t worry. Here’s the schedule for the upcoming VCT Stage 1 Challengers:
- LATAM – Feb 10
- Southeast Asia – Feb 10
- EMEA – Feb 11
- North America – Feb 11
- Brazil – Feb 12
- Japan – Feb 15
- Korea – Feb 23
Pathway to Masters
With that out of the way, let’s take a look at the slots for VCT Masters and Valorant Champions in this season. We’ll first list the slots for both events and then analyze them in more detail.
VCT Masters 1 Slots
- North America: 2 slots
- EMEA: 3 slots
- Brazil: 1/2 slot
- Korea: 1 slot
- Japan: 1 slot
- APAC: 2 slot
- Latin America: 1/2 slot
Valorant Champions
- North America: 2 slots
- EMEA: 2 slots
- Brazil: 1 slots
- Latin America: 1 slot
- Japan: 1 slot
- APAC: 2 slots
- Korea: 1 slot
What’s Different This Year?
At first glance, there’s not much here that indicates any massive changes.
If we compare last year’s Masters in Reykjavík and this year’s Master 1, we’ll notice that EMEA received an extra slot. And given how Riot Games specifically view EMEA as the dominant region, the move kind of makes sense.
The rest is largely unchanged with the exception of Brazil and LATAM, who will now compete for the second slot. So that could be seen as a loss for Brazil in 2022, compared to 2021 where they automatically had 2 slots.
And then there’s Valorant Champions where there’s not much that’s different aside from the APAC region. In 2022, the APAC region’s Last Chance slots were changed into two individual parts – APAC North and APAC South. But at the end of the day, APAC still gets two slots in Champions, and that’s what ultimately counts.
Chamber and Neon Live in Action
Lastly, if you’ve been craving to see how well these two agents will perform in competitive Valorant, you’ll finally have the chance during VCT Challengers, where both Chamber and Neon will make their debut.
And that wraps up the news for the day. We hope you’re excited for the VCT Challengers in February as much as we are. And, as always, make sure to follow us and share your Valorant betting predictions for the tournament.
