Rocket League has been nurturing an ever-growing esports community since the game went free-to-play towards the end of 2020. It was a monumentally popular move by Psyonix, the developer, and it meant that many millions of players flocked to the platform. Now, to refresh that esports scene ever so slightly, an all-new logo has been created and released at the same time as information surrounding the RLCS Fall Major.
At the end of the year, between the 8th and 11th of December, the RLCS Fall Major will take place in Rotterdam. There’s a $310,000 prize pool on the line, and sixteen of the world’s greatest Rocket League trios will take to the main stage at the Rotterdam Ahoy, a venue with a capacity of up to 16,000 people. While the new Rocket League logo screams ‘new branding, new me’, it’s as classic an esports tournament as you can get, at least in terms of Rocket League itself.
Refreshing The Image, Exciting The Fans
Rocket League has been performing remarkably well as an esports title, particularly since changing to a free-to-play model. For instance, at the RLCS World Championship, which was held in August 2022, a peak concurrent viewership of 368,721 users was recorded. If we were to put that into perspective, we’d highlight that the Call of Duty League Championship in August peaked at 275,200 viewers, and the Six Invitational in February at 272,714 viewers.
As of the 23rd of September, the RLCS sign-ups for the coming season went live, meaning that any player is free to assemble a team and register their intent to compete. It’s a short window for some, as in APAC, NA, OCE, and MENA, the sign-up process will be closed by the 27th of September. During the 2022-23 season of the RLCS, play will once again be divided between three splits: Fall, Winter, and Spring. There will be regional events, and Major Rocket League tournaments to cap off each split.
