Format and Schedule

From around the world, 16 of the best Halo teams in the world will be competing at HCS Global Invitational DreamHack. Here’s how they’ve seeded into the event:

  • NA Qualifier – 2 teams
  • NA HCS Points – 8 teams
  • EU Qualifier – 1 team
  • Europe HCS Points – 3 teams
  • MX Qualifier – 1 team
  • ANZ Qualifier – 1 team

Taking place in the weekend of 2nd June, a new champion will be crowned on 4th June, in the Grand Final. Beyond the prize pool of $125,000, a tonne of points are also up for grabs.

Ahead of the event, taking place at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, the sixteen teams have been seeded into the following pools, where they hope to defy the esports odds:

  • Pool ASpacestation Gaming, The Avengers, Shopify Rebellion, VERTEX Esports Club
  • Pool BFaZe Clan, Native Gaming White, Sentinels, Six Karma
  • Pool COpTic Gaming, Gamers First, Quadrant, JLINGZ esports
  • Pool DNative Gaming Red, Complexity Gaming, Natus Vincere, Aw0babobs

Considering how many matches will be taking place, in the following betting preview we’ll be taking a look at each Pool, predicting which top 2 teams will advance to the Upper Bracket of Playoffs using outright odds.

HCS Global Invitational DreamHack

Pool A

  • Spacestation Gaming – 3.25
  • Shopify Rebellion – 23.0
  • The Avengers – 26.0
  • VERTEX Esports Club – 81.0

Starting with Pool A, we have Spacestation Gaming who finished third at the Kickoff Major earlier this year who are most likely to place first in this Group according to the esports betting odds.

Meanwhile, Shopify Rebellion look to be favoured to take second, however not by much. Moreover, The Avengers is an up and coming North American team which could easily surprise here thanks to their recent impressive performances.

On the other hand, VERTEX Esports Club look to leave the competition empty handed.

Pool B

  • FaZe Clan – 3.50
  • Native Gaming White – 19.0
  • Sentinels – 21.0
  • Six Karma – 81.0

Hosting multiple online tournaments prior to this Major, FaZe Clan are in great form and look to contend in the Playoffs. It’s assumed they’ll make it there unscathed.

On the other hand, Sentinels have fallen on tough times and that’s reflected in the outright odds provided by esports betting sites. Instead, Native Gaming White is favoured over Sentinels to place second in this tight group.

The outlier in this group is Six Karma, with not much hope for the Mexican team.

Pool C

  • OpTic Gaming – 3.0
  • Gamers First – 17.0
  • Quadrant – 29.0
  • JLINGZ esports – 67.0

Described as the most clear-cut of the groups, Pool C features the defending World Champions OpTic who also won the Kickoff Major earlier this season. Bearing this in mind, they’re clear favourites here featuring some of the best Halo players of all time.

Looking to place second here, is Gamers First. Thanks to a somewhat consistent performance in the NA region, they are a cut beneath OpTic but remain favoured over Quadrant. Although Quadrant has been respected as a top EU team, they do not equate to Gamers First.

Speaking of Europe, it’ll be interesting to see whether JLINGZ esports can shake the tournament here.

Pool D

  • Complexity Gaming – 13.0
  • Native Gaming Red – 15.0
  • Natus Vincere – 41.0
  • Aw0babobs – 51.0

Perhaps presenting the tightest battle for first place, Pool D presents the community with an epic North American battle between Complexity Gaming and Native Gaming Red.

Considering that both teams have traded blows in the past year, Complexity Gaming and Native Gaming Red are favoured to make it into the top 2 – however which team will come out on top?

On the other hand, Natus Vincere and Aw0babobs have a tall order if they want to finish in the top 2.
