Pick the hero that your team needs the most
Most people who play Dota 2 prefer to play mid, safe lane, or offlane. Even though these positions have their advantages, sometimes, you have to play support if you want your team to win. That’s why one of the most important things to remember is to pick the hero that your team needs the most.
Despite the fact that no one likes having four carries in his team, picking support in a situation like this could do wonders. The fact that everyone wants to play core usually means that you are in the lower MMR brackets. So, by picking support, you drastically increase your chances of winning because the enemy team probably won’t try to end the game sooner. You should try to do the same, but only if you know how to utilize the hero’s full potential.
There are many things that you can do to check who the top heroes are; reading guides, watching replays and keeping up with the patch notes will all help you get a sense of who is most powerful in the current meta. If you don’t want to play the specific hero that is considered “OP”, try to ban it so the enemy team doesn’t pick. The last thing you want is to play against something that’s really hard to defeat.
