The new year is here, and with it, new picks. We take a look at the Dota 2 heroes losing their pick rate at the start of 2023.
It is January 3, which means that 2023 is finally here. Following the holidays, some of the best Dota 2 players in the world are slowly but steadily returning to their “grind” because Tour 1 of the DPC starts in just a few weeks from now. Needless to say, we will have the chance to watch the best Dota 2 teams in the world.
Before we get to see the best in the world, this article will focus on some of the heroes that weren’t picked in the last couple of days. Even though 2023 has just begun, we have some data regarding the least popular heroes in pubs. Unless Valve releases the new big update in the next couple of weeks, we expect that pro players will also avoid these heroes.
Clinkz
After checking the stats from the last couple of days, Clinkz leads the chart when it comes down to losing picks. According to the data, the hero lost around 2.19% in just one week, which is a lot. What’s even more interesting is that Clinkz has one of the highest win rates in Dota 2 – 53.3%. However, it seems like even this isn’t enough to make him the most popular pick.
Clinkz became very popular in late 2022 because PUB players realized their potential. The hero’s reworks in the last couple of months made him one of the best in the game. In addition to his incredible burst, Clinkz also received a massive boost regarding farming.
All of those things affected his pick rate, as well as on the number of games he won. In fact, even pro teams used him several times in their games. If Valve does not release the new update, we expect Clinkz to remain one of the more popular picks in Dota 2. However, we are yet to see if this will be the case.
Shadow Fiend
There are a couple of top-tier mid-laners in the current Dota 2 meta, and Shadow Fiend is among them. The hero was among the go-to options at TI 11, but even the updates after that did not remove him from the meta. In fact, after Leshrac’s nerfs, SF continued to dominate the patch and became one of the best.
Speaking of the best, SF has around a 51.74% win rate, which makes him a solid pick in many situations. However, instead of increasing or at least keeping his 20% pick rate, SF now has around 18.41%, meaning he lost more than 1.7%.
One of the reasons why SF lost a bit of its popularity is because people focus on other midders. Albeit being one of the best, the current meta favors a couple of other mid-laners, including Arc Warden and Razor. Interestingly, they are also on the list.
Razor
Speaking of a hot hero in the current meta, most people reading this definitely think of Razor. Once a niche pick that some pro players used under challenging situations, Razor became one of the go-to options for many players. In fact, he is probably the most versatile hero in the meta because we’ve seen him as a midder, safe-lane, and off-lane.
The reason why Razor became so popular is because of the new item built with Bloodstone. It might seem strange, but when you combine it with an Aghs, the hero becomes difficult to kill while simultaneously doing insane amounts of damage. Needless to say, this was enough to make him one of the go-to options in the meta, which is why he has a 54% win rate.
Despite his effectiveness, it looks like people found a way to deal with him, or they just got bored. The data reveals that Razor lost around a 1.2% pick rate in the last week, so players prefer other heroes.
Arc Warden
The next name on the list is a hero that played a very important role for Tundra Esports at TI 11. In fact, this was one of the few heroes that the team used several times, including in the Final. Needless to say, this affected the hero’s popularity in PUBs because he quickly became one of the hottest options.
At the time of writing this article, Arc Warden is among the heroes with the highest win rating in Dota 2. His ability to farm much faster than almost any other hero and his incredible 1v1 potential makes him one of the best regarding pubs. Despite that, Arc lost a 1.16% pick in the last 7 days, which means he deserves 4th place on the list.
Warden is one of the heroes we expect to see more of in 2023. That said, it will be interesting to see if Valve will change something about the hero in the upcoming update. Most Dota 2 players can agree that Arc is not overpowered right now, but since we expect the update to be pretty big, we might see changes to his farming speed.
Drow Ranger
The last hero we’d like to include on the list is none other than Drow Ranger, a name that’s often been among the preferred options for pro players. To be fair, Drow Ranger has always been one of the go-to heroes for many situations because of her aura. It seems like she is really good in the current meta as well because she has a whopping 54.53% win rate.
Despite being one of the most successful heroes in Dota 2 right now, Drow Ranger actually lost around 1% of her pick rate in the last 7 days. Following the changes, she has around 17.22%, which is still pretty impressive, especially for a fragile core hero.
What’s interesting about all of the heroes mentioned in this article is that they are among the hot picks in the current meta. Speaking of metas, Dota 2’s new patch should be just around the corner, and we expect to see a lot of changes. Aside from the usual hero and item balances, Valve will likely add Muerta, the newest hero.
