Dota 2: Western Europe Tour 2 Division I – Meta Analysis

Here is an overview of the meta after the Western Europe Tour 2 Division I matches ended.

After the end of the Western Europe Tour 2 Division I matches, the best teams in the world have qualified for The Bali Major 2023. Before that, Dota 2 fans will have the chance to watch DreamLeague Season 20, which will take place in just a few days. We already have an article about some of the potential favorites, so make sure to check it out.

With that said, it doesn’t seem like Valve will release a new patch before this tournament. As a result, we will be able to watch yet another event on 7.33c, which is very interesting, to say the least. We keep learning new things about the meta, so we can’t wait to see what will happen in two of the most anticipated tournaments of 2023.

Before that, it’s time to take a step back and see what happened in the  Western Europe Tour 2 Division I in terms of picks. Some heroes here were a lot more popular than in other regions, and since it’s the leading one in the world, we’ve decided to share a few words about them. Needless to say, we will be seeing those heroes in action in just a few days from now.

Techies is the leader

If we take a look at the stats, we can see that one hero is clearly above the rest in terms of popularity. Surprisingly, its name is Techies, and it has become one of the most dangerous weapons for the best WEU teams. Following the end of Division I matches, Techies appeared in a total of 47 matches, which is really impressive. What’s even more interesting is that the hero has a 53% win rate, which is pretty good considering the number of games he’s been in.

The reason why so many players rely on Techies is because of the hero’s ability to harass, stack and do tons of damage at all stages of the game. Sure, Techies is a unique hero that doesn’t work in all cases. However, after watching some of the best from the Western Europe Tour 2 Division I, we can safely say that people who know what they’re doing can easily dominate their game.

Another interesting fact about Techies is that the hero is also pretty popular in other regions. For example, he was one of the leaders in Southeast Asia, Western Europe, and many other places.

Void Spirit is really strong

Despite the fact that Void Spirit does not have as many picks and bans as Techies, he is one of the best heroes in the Dota 2 patch 7.33c right now. With a total of 37 appearances in the Western Europe Tour 2 Division I, Void Spirit is also the most successful hero with more than 20 matches. He has around a 62% win rate, which is good and explains why he was the main weapon for many midders.

One of the big reasons why Void Spirit is so successful is because of his ability to control the game’s tempo. After a good laning stage, he can easily become the strongest hero in the game for the next 15 minutes. Albeit not that dangerous in the late-game, most teams in WEU that used Void Spirit tried to win as fast as possible, or they just got a late-game monster for position 1.

Void Spirit is also one of those heroes that we had the chance to watch in all regions. Even though he was most successful in WEU, the hero has a key role in many other teams’ tactics, including those in China, SEA, NA, and more.

Medusa is good

Medusa hits multiple enemies at a time in a team fight

There is no arguing that Medusa is not as strong as she was prior to the 7.33c patch. In case you have missed out, this was one of the heroes we’ve recommended for the carry role, but after watching the Western Europe Tour 2 Division I matches, it became clear that she can also work as a midder and offlaner when needed.

Medusa is a hero that is known for her late-game potential. With that said, the 7.33 patch changed a lot of things about it, including her early and mid-game. Even though she’s not as good as some of the other options, she is definitely playable, which explains why we see her more often than before.

If we take a look at the stats, we can see that Medusa has 25 games and around a 60% win rate. This percentage was much higher before, but some teams have found ways to counter the mighty carry.

Medusa will definitely be one of the core picks during DreamLeague Season 20, as well as The Bali Major 2023.

Spirit Breaker

There are a couple of big support heroes that have been the go-to option in Western Europe Tour 2 Division I, and Spirit Braker is one of them. People who haven’t followed the professional Dota 2 scene in a while may think that this is a pub star. However, this is not the case anymore because the best teams in the world use him all the time.

The unique thing about Spirit Breaker is his ability to disrupt the enemy’s laning stage. His Charge allows him to gank enemy heroes around the map, even from an early stage. Albeit not that strong on the lane, he can be a solid option against melee heroes, especially if they do not have a lot of regen.

Another thing that Spirit Breaker is really good at in Dota 2 is initiating a fight or even counter-initiate, depending on the situation. We’ve seen this repeatedly, especially in the clashes between some of the best Dota 2 teams in WEU.

In terms of the stats, Spirit Breaker has a 50% win rate, which is not that bad when compared to other supports, such as Silencer or Pugna.

Doom

Unsurprisingly, Doom is the hero with the highest win rate out of the popular heroes in the Western Europe Tour 2 Division I, and for a reason. Doom has established himself as one of the best heroes in the game and an excellent offlaner. With that said, some teams also use him as a position 4, depending on the draft.

Even though Doom only had the chance to appear in 18 games, he has an impressive 72.22% win rate in WEU and several other parts of the world. This is a sign that Doom is definitely good in the current meta, and the hero can make a real difference.

What’s interesting about Doom is that he doesn’t have such an impressive win rate in PUBs. The main reason for it is that Dota 2 players usually do not know how to play with the hero. Doom has his specifics, but to make a long story short, the hero should take part in team fights only when he has his ultimate. Furthermore, people who play with Doom need to know which heroes to use it on because a bad ultimate can lead to a loss.

Beastmaster

Western Europe Tour 3 Division I - BM

The last name on the list, when it comes down to the most successful heroes after the end of the Western Europe Tour 2 Division I matches, is Beastmaster. Everyone who has paid some attention to the Tour 3 matches knows that this hero is in a league if his own. Similar to a few patches ago, BM is the most successful offlaner and a hero that can make a real difference.

We had the chance to watch him in action with a total of 16 teams in Western Europe. With 10 victories and 6 losses, he has an impressive 62.50% win rate, which is better than almost any other offlaner besides Doom. However, the latter was used in other positions as well.

Beastmaster is a hero that can put up a challenge even when playing against the most annoying safe lanes. Furthermore, he can take advantage of the new map and farm neutral camps a lot faster than many other heroes.

Aside from that, another reason that makes him one of the best Western Europe Tour 2 Division I heroes is his ability to push and stun a specific enemy hero. The best Dota 2 teams in the world know how to use this to their advantage, which is why we will see the team much more often in the future.
