Dota 2 DPC Western Europe Division II Week 1 Overview

All the highlights from Week 1 of Western Europe’s Division II DPC.

The matches in the 2023 Western Europe  Division I are over, and with them, we can now focus on Division II. That said, the first Major of the 2023 DPC will take place in a couple of days from now, so make sure to follow us for more information.

Division II in Western Europe is much more intriguing than the one in other parts of the world. Although not all teams here are that impressive, there are a couple of top-rated squads that people will keep an eye on. Speaking of top teams, don’t forget to check our 2023 DPC Division II overview to learn more about them.

Now that week 1 is over, we already know which teams will be among the favorites for the top 2 finish. Those who finish first and second will receive a slot for Division I, so winning as many matches as possible is important. With that said, here is an overview of what happened.

Monaspa defeated Alliance

The first series in the 2023 WEU DPC Division II that people were eager to watch was between Monaspa and Alliance. The latter were the big favorites because they have a new roster around s4. However, even this wasn’t enough for the Swedish powerhouse to win the match because it lost the series.

Monaspa’s squad consists of several top-tier players, including the Greek legends dEsire and SsaSpartan. These two were key to the team’s success, especially in the first game. Although we saw some of the hottest heroes in the meta from Alliance, the team wasn’t powerful enough to stop Monaspa’s Morphling draft, and their enemies took the lead.

Even though dEsire and the rest tried using a very similar draft for the second game of the series, this time, Alliance was prepared. The team’s Ursa had a solid start and quickly snowballed out of control. Their enemies didn’t have enough disables to keep her out of the game, which allowed Alliance to equalize the match.

Both tied got their hands on some of their most comfortable heroes for game 3, which allowed us to watch an epic battle. Alliance relied heavily on their Magnus + BS and Ember, whereas Monaspa picked Morph yet again. However, they’ve also decided to get Tinker, a hero we haven’t seen in action in a long time.

The game had a lot of epic moments and exciting fights, but in the end, Monaspa won the match. Their Morphling and Tinker combo outfarmed their opponents, despite using Magnus’s Ember.

Even though we expected Lil Pleb’s team to dominate in Division II, it seems like the team will have more problems than it thought. Following the first week of the 2023 DPC Western Europe Division II matches, Ancient Tribe lost against Oorendoo Thunders.

Although OT won the match, the victory wasn’t easy because both games lasted around 50 minutes each. We expected AT to win the first one because the team’s Omni and Troll draft looked almost unstoppable in the late game. However, the team made many big mistakes that ultimately lost them in the match.

Ancient Trive switched their draft after the loss and got their signature Pudge. The latter helped the squad in the early game, but once the mid-game arrived, things changed. AT were playing against the clock and tried to take fight after fight to pressure their opponents’ Morphling. Sadly, things didn’t go as planned because OT took control of the match and eventually won.

Alliance lost against Ooredoo Thunders, but defeated D2 H

Despite being the big favorite in the Western European 2023 DPC Division II, it seems like Alliance won’t live up to the expectations. After losing the first series against Monaspa, s4 and the rest also made a mistake against Ooredoo Thunders.

The first match between the two was even, at least until the mid-game. Alliance was under pressure because the team had to play against Medusa, one of the late-game monsters in Dota 2. This forced the team to look for big fights so that Bloodseeker could snowball.

Although s4 and co. got several kills, they weren’t enough to provide the European squad with the needed advantage. Slowly but steadily, Ooredoo Thunders and their Medusa became too powerful for their opponents. As a result, game 1 went in their favor.

Game 2

Following the loss in the first game, Alliance tried using their popular Shadow Fiend and Brewmaster draft. It helped them win several games before the start of the 2023 WEU DPC, but it wasn’t enough to carry them to victory in this series.

Things didn’t look that bad initially, but once Lina and Brood got the lead, the two heroes became almost unstoppable. Alliance tried everything possible to win a team fight, but it did not have the firepower needed. In the end, Ooredoo Thunders won this match and delivered the Alliance’s 2nd loss.

The match vs D2 H

After losing 2 games this week, Alliance had one last chance to save its hopes of reaching Division I. The team had to win its encounter against D2 Husters, which was easier said than done because the latter had already secured 2 victories.

Fortunately, s4 and the rest stepped up their game and won the match, despite losing the first game of the series. Speaking of the devil, game one started okay for Alliance, but their opponent’s SF and Viper draft quickly bounced back. Although the team did not answer Alliance’s Sniper, D2 Hustlers became too strong and won the match.

Sadly, this was the Davai Lama’s only victory in the series because his team lost the next 2 maps. After winning the first game, D2 Hustlers picked almost the same draft in the second game, but this time, Alliance got Lycan for themselves. Although it wasn’t easy, Handsken and co. won the map.

In the final clash between the two, Alliance decided to “go hard or go home” and picked Medusa as their talented carry player. Although D2 Hustlers also got a good draft, they were no match for Alliance’s determination. In the end, the team won this crucial match, which means they still had a chance to secure a top-2 finish.
