Cloud9
While Cloud9 has faced a ton of criticism in recent times, regarding their lack of primary AWPer and their star players’ inconsistent performances, the Russian squad is playing better than ever in Copenhagen. After two flawless runs in the European RMR and the Opening Stage of the Major, Cloud9 booked themselves a playoff ticket with just a single loss on their record against tournament favorites Spirit. Along the way, the Russians took down G2, NAVI, SAW, and many other competitive teams.
Although the whole roster considerably upped their game in Copenhagen, one player stands out as the one to have made the biggest improvements in his individual form – Sergey “Ax1Le” Rykhtorov. 2022’s fourth-best Counter-Strike player has struggled to adapt to the new version of Cloud9, but he seems to be hitting his stride at the perfect time. The 21-year-old rifler was one of the best-performing players of the Elimination Stage, sporting an impressive 1.35 rating.
Cloud9’s PGL CS2 Major journey has been impressive thus far, but if they are to beat Vitality and be in with a chance to go all the way, each player on the roster needs to step up on the stage and bring their A-game to the Royal Arena
Vitality
The defending Major Champions haven’t looked their best in Copenhagen thus far. However, a big factor in their below-average disposition is the fact that Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut, the BLAST.tv Paris Major MVP, fell ill during the Elimination Stage. Despite the unfortunate circumstances, the rest of Vitality pulled through and qualified for the arena with a respectable 3-1 record.
While Vitality are still considered among the favorites to lift the Major trophy, their 2024 struggles have gone under the radar. The Bees bombed out of IEM Katowice in last place, with their recent performances far from convincing. However, a packed-out Royal Arena should invigorate the international roster to return to their peak level and give it their all in their bid for the PGL CS2 Major title.
Hopefully, ZywOo fully recovers by Thursday and we get to witness one of the best Counter-Strike players in history back at their best in an exhilarating Major playoff setting.
Cloud9 vs Vitality Odds & Prediction
As for PGL Copenhagen betting, Thunderpick favors Vitality to take down Cloud9 and be the first team to advance to the PGL CS2 Major semi-finals. While that is the most likely outcome, the Russians of Cloud9 are arguably in better form and have less to lose.
ZywOo’s fitness is also a huge question mark. If he is still under the weather on the quarter-final Thursday, it would be a huge advantage for C9, especially since they don’t have a primary AWPer. That being said, with both teams at 100%, Vitality should have the edge over their opposition.
