Smooya Joins fnatic on 3 Month Trial » TalkEsport

The move comes after the Brit stood in for fnatic at the IEM Winter Open Qualifiers, top fragging in 3 of the 5 maps he played in.

After the benching of Jack “⁠Jackinho⁠” Ström Mattsson earlier this week, fnatic have signed Owen ‘Smooya’ Butterfield as his replacement, on trial for 3 months with an option to extend if they deem fit.

Smooya has been on the bench for 2 months, after playing for Movistar Riders for the last 8 months. He was released from his contract earlier today, to make way for the fnatic move to happen. Owen thanked his former team in his twitlonger, where he announced he’ll be joining fnatic.

Smooya has previously played for names such as  BIG, Renegades and Chaos Esports Club. 

Fnatic now have a British core, a first in theri CS:GO campaign as they had been rocking a Swedish core all this time. The signing of Alex ‘ALEX’ McMeekin and William ‘mezii’ Merriman and now ‘Smooya’ makes 3 of the 5 members British, with only Freddy ‘KRIMZ’ Johansson and Ludvig ‘Brollan’ Brolin remaining from the previous Swedish roster.

Jamie ‘keita’ Hall also adds to the British core, after he took over as Strategic coach from Samuelsson as he transitioned more into a managerial role.

He will be playing his first game for them in the next stage of IEM Winter Qualifiers from October 18th, as fnatic failed to qualify for the Major.
