The Cathedral of Counter-Strike welcomes one and all once more to one of the greatest shows on Earth — IEM Cologne 2022. Twenty four enter, but only six will be deemed worthy enough to cross the stage at the mighty LANXESS Arena — will our Aussies (and Kiwis) at Order overcome the odds?
It’s been two long years since patrons last graced the halls of the LANXESS in Cologne, Germany for Counter-Strike.
Finally, come July 15, the doors will open once more to the thousands, and six of the world’s best CS:GO teams will take to that grand stage to battle for the lion’s share of a million dollars.
Before that, however, the challengers must be narrowed down.
Twenty four squads from all corners of the globe arrived in Cologne over the past few weeks; for eight of them, their group stage berth secured, they’ll be waiting in the wings.
Only eight more can join them from the Play-In stage, starting Tuesday night AEST — one of which will be our home heroes in Order.
There’s no sugar coating it — they won’t be favoured in any of their match-ups in their Cologne campaign.
Thrice has this line-up made it overseas in 2022, and thrice they’ve exited all but winless; in Katowice, an overtime loss to OG and a demolition at the hands of Entropiq ended their Play In within 24 hours.
At the PGL Major in Belgium, The Boys fell unceremoniously to forZe, Eternal Fire and, finally, their fellow APAC reps at IHC without a single map win.
At the EPL Conference, they defeated their own compatriots in Encore, but were unable to break through either Endpoint or FTW.
But this ain’t any ordinary international LAN.
There’s a certain prestige that comes with attendance at IEM Cologne, and Order will be sure to bring nothing but their best — anything less, and there’ll be another long early flight home for them.
Order will open their account against hometown heroes BIG, with a match-up against Outsiders or Imperial booked following — it’ll only be a matter of for qualification or elimination.
It’s not just online coverage that we’ll will be bringing you from the Cathedral of Counter-Strike; foreign correspondent Maximilian “maxxeck” Eck is on-site and will be capturing every moment exclusively for Snowball Esports.
We’re covering everything IEM Cologne 2022.
