The European powerhouse claim their first silverware in nine months to move within a spot of the HLTV.org rankings summit
FaZe have risen to the second spot in HLTV.org’s world rankings after clinching the ESL Pro League Season 17 trophy. Their 3-1 victory over Cloud9 in the Grand Finals ended FaZe’s nine-month trophy drought and steered them into the top two for the first time in four months. It’s FaZe’s first title since winning the IEM Cologne in July 2022.
FaZe’s list of achievements following their landmark ESL Pro League win doesn’t end here. They also unlocked the Intel Grand Slam prize, which is awarded to the team that becomes the first to win four ESL S-tier events in a window of 10 serial competitions. FaZe completed the quartet by winning the IEM Katowice 2022, ESL Pro League Season 15, IEM Cologne 2022, and ESL Pro League Season 17. Only Astralis, Liquid, and Natus Vincere had claimed the $1,000,000 USD accolade before FaZe. Russel “Twistzz” Van Dulken made history as the first player to win two Intel Grand Slams. The FaZe rifer won his first Intel Grand Slams with Team Liquid in 2019.

FaZe’s incredible run of form in the first half of 2022 was instrumental to their Intel Grand Slams win. The signing of Robin “ropz” Kool from MOUZ inspired an incredible run of form that had FaZe cemented at the top of the rankings for a whopping 13 weeks. No other team in competitive CSGO history managed to hold on to the no.1 spot in the rankings for so long.
They could not sustain the momentum after the summer break and lost the ESL Pro League title to Vitality. The failed title defense also displaced FaZe from the top of the ranking, and they are yet to reclaim that position.
G2 still occupy the no.1 spot, despite their premature ESL Pro League Season 17 exit. The team’s solid late 2022 and early 2023 performances keep them at the top of the pile. FaZe would need to continue their winning run to conquer the rankings once again.
ENCE’s return to the top 10 is another noteworthy change in the global rankings this week. Marco “Snappi” Pfeiffer’s men broke into the top 10 for the first time since Lotan “Spinx” Giladi left for Vitality in August. Virtus.pro also made a top 10 comeback after the ESL and BLAST lifted their ban on the Russian outfit.
Astralis and Ninjas in Pyjamas continue their downward spiral in the rankings. Both teams had forgettable ESL Pro League campaigns lately and are now out of the top 15, despite making several changes to their rosters over the past few months.
Here are the complete set of HLTV CSGO team rankings following ESL Pro League Season 17.
