EPL Conference Season 16: Order look for day two qualification; Vertex, Encore fight for their lives

Season 16 of ESL Pro League begins in Sweden this week with the Conference — a chance for the challengers and future stars of the globe to prove their worth and qualify for the all-important EPL Group Stage.

Order were sublime in their opening series, reaffirming their OCE #1 title with a 2-0 drubbing of Encore.

Alistair “aliStair” Johnston led the way for Order as they dispatched of Encore on Ancient, before Josh “INS” Potter put the series beyond doubt on Order’s pick of Inferno.

The win sets up a 3:30am AEST bout against UK-based European squad Endpoint, who had to come from behind twice in their 2-0 victory over French team HEET.

Markus “Kjaerbye” Kjaerbye went positive in his return to Counter-Strike after an extended hiatus, and will meet Order to determine the first team through to the EPL group stage.

All three Aussie squads will be competing on day two; Encore will play to keep their EPL campaign alive against HEET, while Vertex will take on Illuminar Gaming after dropping their opener to Falcons.

The Wolfpack struggled against French squad Falcons in their international debut, managing 0 T rounds on Falcons’ pick of Nuke in a 16-5 loss.

Jordan “pz” White (21-16, 1.22 rating) led the way for Vertex on Inferno, with the Aussies managing 6 T rounds to open.

But Falcons stepped up in the second half, torching the Wolfpack’s defence which only managed a single CT round in the 16-7 defeat.

Sixteen teams will be whittled down to six via a full double-elimination bracket.

It’s simple: win two matches, and they’re through to the Group Stage, and a shot at the lion’s share of over $800,000 USD. Lose two, and they’re going home. All matches are best-of-three.
